Welcome to my Collection about Fabulous Flies!

Home to all those annoyingly buzzing critters that have such a dirty reputation. While I won't deny that some flies do indeed do some dirty things, I am mainly sharing my work in this Collection to show off the intricate beauty that the flies can have. You'll only find "True Flies" here, so no dragonflies, stoneflies, or the like.

If you found this collection because it's featured (or otherwise): thank you so much for checking it out, I hope you'll enjoy it!

As a brief introduction in this pinned post, let me just take the time to say that I'm a simple amateur photographer; I started out with borrowed equipment and have steadily improved my gear to get to my current setup. Practice, of course, is the most important aspect, as well as interaction with everyone else. I love to talk about my shots!
That said, I think it is only fair to expect others to treat photographers with respect - a lot of effort went into making these pictures... Therefore, if you feel like sharing this work with others: please use the reshare function and do _not download and re-post._

Rubbing its hands together.. it must have been hatching an evil plan...

Here's a bristly one for #FlyFriday! :)

It's not the nicest shot, but one does not get these opportunities all too often: here's a fly on a leaf, heavily backlit by the sun, so we only see its shadow through the leaf!

No flash, obviously :)

Normally I would trash this shot, because the focal place is not nicely on the fly. In this case we get a good view of the mouth parts, which I considered interesting enough to share.

"Bzz, look at all my tiny eye facets!"

Have a nice hoverfly for #FlyFriday. Quite tricky to get the focal plane just right... they're a bit big, so you almost never get a whole eye in focus.

I'm stuck

This mosquito was struggling a bit, trying to dislodge itself from my skin. Can't say I feel very sorry for it ;)

Shiny and smelly

This big green fly (and the smaller one in the out of focus foreground) don't mind the smell of dung at all! Jummy! :)

But buzzing is too!
