Earrings
This pair of earrings really made a style statement at my niece's wedding. It is possible that they are an old family heirloom.

The long walk to school
Life in our hills is tough as the infrastructure is still developing. The lady in the image is possibly a homemaker, and one of her daily tasks is to trudge miles uphill to give her child a chance to be educated and be part of the modern world.

Dry Flower Seller
Durga puja is a huge festival in Kolkata, India. While for most it is time for fun and merriment, for some others it is a vital business opportunity - one that makes all the difference in meeting basic needs.
The festival was held here earlier this week.

Mourning of Muharram
The rituals associated with 10th day of Muharram in Kolkata are essentially male dominated. However, there are a handful of women who play a significant role at the end of the ritual procession. I am not versed enough to comment on their role - but it is an important one I would guess.
I thought this image brought out the solemnity and sadness associated with the day.

The Walk for Water
This homemaker is making her way to fetch water which is rarely available from a household tap in rural India.
Do note the colour-coordinated sieve in her left hand :)

The Fishmonger and his Wife!
Simple lives and simple needs melting together into smiles that are honest and beautiful.
This is a man I know for a few years now, but this is the first time I came across his wife at the fish market. He asked that I take a shot of his wife, and one of the two of them together. I was with my Olympus #epl3  and took a couple of quick frames. I hope to meet him next week with a print which will bring the smile back.
