The View on the Way Down from the Lion's Head Cliffs

The waters of Georgian Bay in Ontario are an extraordinary colour as you can see from this photograph. Apparently they change back to 'regular' lake water colour once they become Lake Huron around the top of the Peninsula. This was taken from the top of the cliffs at Lion's Head. This is a beautiful area of the country and I hope to get back there one day to see more of the sights that I have apparently missed but have been told about by commenters on my previous post.

Before the Bungee Jump

Our trip to Ontario this spring included a stay on an inlet off Georgian Bay and on one occasion we went on a walk with a climb up through a wood to the top of a cliff overlooking the amazing and unique colours of Georgian Bay itself. Note the absence of handrails (and the presence of rings in the rock for those who climb up the cliff from the shore). It might not look it, but it was a long way down.

It was a tranquil scene unless you suffer from vertigo.

Evening Light Over Canning

Scenes that we drive or walk past everyday and take so much for granted can become commonplace. We barely notice them, not giving them a second glance until suddenly in the golden hour on an evening walk the true beauty of the scene shines through and we see the gem that was on our doorstep.

Alone, Rugged and Strong

Many people living in remote areas of this country become like this tree, it seems. Growing strong and alone they weather the winter winds and cold and the summer heat and somehow are stronger and more enduring because of this. They seem entirely comfortable with being alone.

Winter Fields Threatening Snow

In fact the snow began as soon as I took this and got back in the car, a real blizzard, one of the ugliest days of the winter (so far).  I don't know what this crop is, but though I wanted to identify it, the weather was so cold and miserable that I just couldn't bring myself to go into the field to find out. It's  not Brussels sprouts as I thought at first. Let' hope Spring is soon coming.

Crowded Beach in Nova Scotia

This was taken during a wonderful day out with G+ friends Alex and Linda during their stay in our Province. We had a great day, fighting off the crowds on one of our favourite beaches. If you squint you can see Alex perched on the top of the rock. (No, it's not a seagull with a hat on, it's +Alex Lapidus creating the lovely image you can see on his own profile!) Thanks to Alex and +Linda Villers for a wonderful day.

Blomidon from Kingsport Beach at Low Tide

That particular day there was a storm threatening as the late afternoon light was shining on the water. The tide was almost fully out so we were walking actually on the bay floor. It is a strange feeling, to know that in only a very short time, all the flat sands will be once again under the water.

Arthur Comes to Canning

As of last night I believe that everyone in the area now has their power restored. This was taken at the (blocked) entry to Canning on the night of the storm, last week. Roads were blocked, trees had fallen onto electricity and phone lines, so most people had neither. Which meant for many people in the area that they also didn't have water (as most living outside of the main town limits rely on wells and electric pumps). Which for many meant that they didn't have drinking or washing or cooking water, but also couldn't flush toilets. And for many people that situation lasted for 5 days. On top of this many people suffered some damage to property and lost a lot of mature trees, pulled down by the force of the wind in the branches that were heavy with strong early summer leaves.

Now it's all over. But the effects will be around for some time to come and the cleanup is only just begun.

More Seagull Butts Than You Can Shake a Stick at

I know there is no such theme as #seagullbuttsaturday  featuring #seagullbuttshots  so I wouldn't want to bother the (NON) curators : +Robin Griggs Wood +Christin McLeod  +Sassi Sassmannshausen  +Lauri Novak  +Craig Szymanski  +Ursula Klepper  +Melissa Beagle +Ellie Kennard +Cora Triton  +Steve Savoie  +Pam Wolfe  +Joy mum +Jon Cassill +Tom McGowan +Annie Irving +Debbie Moran  as I know they are busy fending off seagull bird butt postings all weekend!

BUTT a theme near and dear to my heart which DOES exist, is #farmfriday  +Farm Friday curated by myself +Steven Kennard +Sofie Løve Forsberg and +Ellie Kennard and I know they won't mind being mentioned in this share of seagulls birds flying low over winter fields!

So happy Farm Friday everyone!
