Candy Cigarette by Sally Mann, Virginia, 1989 (from "Immediate Family" series)
"This photo is a striking example of Mann's distinctive combination of careful planning and serendipity. In this work Mann's daughter, Jessie, suspends her activity and gracefully balances a candy cigarette in her hand, appearing to be the innocent miniature of a blonde and gangling twenty-something beauty."

Enjoy another photo by my favourite photographer René Maltête (1930 – 2000), who loved to capture the unusual scenes of everyday life, randomly sighted during his wanderings, but also deliberately offbeat staged situations.

Village life by Leonard Freed
Italy, Sicily, 1974.

Leonard Freed (born in 1929 in Brooklyn, New York – Died in 2006 in Garrison, New York) was a documentary photojournalist and longtime Magnum member. He was born to Jewish, working-class parents of Eastern European descent. Leonard first wanted to become a painter. However, he began taking photographs while in the Netherlands in 1953, and discovered that this was where his passion lay.

Maths by René Maltête (1930–2000) - photographer, poet, humorist, early ecologist. Maltête took amusing snapshots of French life, sometimes working for simple visual amusement, other times aiming to elicit philosophical thought. Funny, poetic and tender, his pictures were published in numerous magazines worldwide.
