Eclipse Footage
Yesterday I witnessed one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. We were fairly close to the total eclipse path, so +John Getchel and I hiked up to the top of Yonah Mountain in Georgia so we'd have a full panoramic view during the eclipse. It was simply an amazing sight to see. We only had 80 seconds of totality, but it was the most amazing 80 seconds. I haven't had time to do much with my images, but I wanted to at least post something from yesterday. This is about 8 minutes of video compressed into 57 seconds.

North Carolina Sunset
We had a great sunset from the cabin we were staying in earlier in the week. It had just rained some and the sun was dropping behind the ridge.

I used Nik Analog Efex Pro to process this. Too bad it's a dead product as you could do some really neat things with it. I guess all good things must come to an end.

#joinindaily - On Top Of The World!

Today's #joinindaily by +Johnny Wills theme is "On Top Of The World!".

This is the top of Engineer Pass in Colorado which sits at 12,800 feet. While this is not the highest peak in Colorado, you certainly feel like you are on the top of the world when you are standing at nearly 13,000 feet looking out over the vast distances that you can see from here.

Nevada Desert & Mountains
I shot a ton of panoramic shots on my last trip to and from San Francisco. This is just east of the California/Nevada border. It's something else to see snow on the mountains in May. There hasn't been snow on these mountains in May for about 7 years.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve
I had another great view of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve on my way to San Francisco today. I love this time of the year when the valleys are coming to life with color and there is still a good bit of snow in the peaks.

#joinindaily - Passenger Carriers

Today's #joinindaily by +Johnny Wills theme is "Passenger Carriers".

This is the cruise ship port in Ketchikan, Alaska. You can see the snow covered mountains in the background. You don't realize how really big these ships are until you look at the buildings behind them or the other vessels that are docked.

Buena Vista, Colorado
Last week when I was flying home from San Francisco, I was really hoping to be able to see the Sierras covered with snow (for a change), but the Sierras, Nevada, Utah and most of Colorado was covered in clouds. I did however get a break in the clouds just as we were passing over the continental divide.

This city you see is Buena Vista. You can see the chalk cliffs at the foot of Mount Princeton on the bottom left, Breckenridge & Keystone top left, and Mount Evans in back center.

Here's a Google Earth maps view from mostly the same perspective: https://goo.gl/maps/4JJ8ejHDUKH2

Table Mountain, Cape Town
Cape Town's dominant geological feature is Table Mountain. It sits at 3,558 feet and towers over the ocean. The city is literally built all around the mountain. I shot this on my last evening in Cape Town. There are so many great vantage points to view the mountain, but this was definitely one of my favorites.

Cape Town Sunset
On my last evening in Cape Town, I went up to a high vantage point to watch the sunset. The clouds were pretty much non-existent, so there wasn't much color at sunset or after, but as the sun was low in the horizon, it made for some great light on the hillside. The mountain peak in the center is Lion Head and Table Mountain is on the far left.

You can find other sunset shots in my Sunrise, Sunset album here: https://plus.google.com/photos/112417919317910781482/albums/5757092836408018497
