Glacier National Park, British Columbia

Glacier is one of the six national parks located in the Canadian Rockies and one of seven national parks in British Columbia. It should not be confused with Glacier National Park in Montana, or Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska.

It is a rather small park with skiing in the winter. Oddly enough, there aren't many glaciers left in the park anymore.

Pacific Rim National Park, British Columbia

Located on Vancouver Island, Pacific Rim is one of the most unique parks in the Parks Canada system. Closed along the coast of the Pacific, it is noted for the best surfing in Canada and a very strong microclimate. To give you an idea, just 1 mile away from where I took this photo, the sun was shining and the sky was clear!

Gwaii Haanas National Park, British Columbia

Located in the Haida Gwaii Islands (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands) of British Columbia, is one of the most stunning and under-appreciated parks in the Canadian system. It is home to the oldest standing, original totem poles dating back before the arrival of Europeans. It is also a protected coastal ecosystem teeming with wildlife.

The Haida people have decided to let the totem poles decay naturally, so there only a few more years left to visit before they are gone forever.
