Handmade Purple Clay Teapots are produced in Jingdezhen, China. This rare clay is mined and crafted in Central China from which the finest teapots have been made for centuries. Local craftsmen (ZiSha artists) hand craft the tea pots from the ‘ZiSha’ clay. The superior “stone-clay” is known as Zisha or “Purple Clay” (even though the colour of the clay may not necessarily be purple) and comes naturally in a variety of colours. The secret of Purple Clay Teapots lies in the sand, it contains quartz and mica, as well as other lesser known minerals.

The unique granular structure and mineral composition of Zisha clay gives it excellent heat handling properties that are unsurpassed for maintaining the flavour of tea.
