Altamira Oriole (Icterus gularis), seen at the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park in far southern Texas. According to the Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America, this species is "rare within very limited range."

This Dark-eyed Junco, which appeared on the North Carolina Museum of Art grounds today, is telling us that winter is here, and the leaf litter around it suggests that. On the other hand, they hang out in some places in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains all year!

These six Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa) and three Willets (maybe) showed up in an inland puddle created by Hurricane Nate on the beach at Gulfport, Mississippi, in the middle of the day. Best viewed large!

This Snowy Egret was flushing out fish with a kind of dance in Gulfport, Mississippi; you can see three in this photo. Not sure if this strategy succeeded in getting any caught, though.
