New Year got off to a great start for the DCC members who took part in the Christmas/New year paddle on Coniston from Monk Coniston. It was a beautiful day and conditions on the water were ideal for a gentle paddle up and around the lake before heading off to Blue Bird cafe for a hot chocolate to go with our sandwiches. We played a game of Scavenger Hunt organised by Emily. We split into several teams with titles such as "The Quality team", "The Weed Team" and "The Tenna Team"( dont ask). A fun time was had by all with the The Weed Team winning the most points. Once off the water and after getting changed it was followed by a piece of birthday day cake as one of our members turned 18 today.

Anyone that turned up on 20th October at the docks were in for a treat. The diving club had got out their speedboat and proceeded to make lots of waves for DCC members to practise their wild water skills on. There was certainly plenty of them about this session with some members even getting a spin around the dock on board. Fantastic fun was had by all who attended this session which was filmed by Emily and photographed by James.

Monday evening saw Barrow Army Cadets hold their presentation evening. It was with great pride that Michelle and James watched Keiran receive his bronze Duke of Edingburgh award. Connor is also a member. They look so grown up and smart in their uniforms. They do their parents and themselves proud. As do all the other army cadets. Congratulations.

In November, when the weather wasn't quite as bad, DCC junior members decided to do some flat water training out on the dock in the K4. They were escorted by a safety crew but they surplus to requirements as the girls put into practise all their skills they had learned and paddled up and down the dock with ease. Once they got the hang of the K4 is was off to tackle the SUP boards with as much success.

Today was wet and windy to start with but the weather soon improved so it didn't deter the four of us from enjoying a paddle along Lancaster canal from Bolton le Sands up towards Capernwray. Before setting of on our paddle we were treated to the sight of the West Coast Steam Santa special being towed by a diesel towards Lancaster. Must have been Rudolphs day off. Just short of Capernwray we stopped for dinner and a chat where several dogs took a fancy to our sandwiches. On the way back we spotted a kingfisher skimming along the top of the water aswell as plenty of ducks and a few fallen trees. A pleasant trip was had by all.

On Saturday 1st of December duddon took a mixture of polo players to a tournament in Penrith leisure centre... the tournament was for all abilities, to help encourage people give it ago. We had two brand new players Rachel and mark, junior players Connor and Jolene with Kirsty, Michelle, Trevor, Lee and Scott.
With having 9 players we decided to just mix each team up and go have fun and maybe learn one more rule.
There was some great team play by all involed passing the ball around until there were shots on for players to score.( Lee and Scott 3, Trevor 2 and mark 1) The defence was strong at times giving other clubs the run out they needed... the juniors Connor and jo did a fantastic job all round but also putting in some great shots on target but were sadly saved by some great goalkeepers. For marks and Rachel's first time and them feeling nervous at the start they soon both fit well into the team. Putting in some fantastic defence even taking a few pushes in and managing to carry on and mark even scoring on his first game. Well done all
A big thank you goes out to them that came up to support Jo's dad, Sarah (marks wife) and of course Ryan team mascot( For now as you be playing soon) ....
The next tournament is on 26th January if anyone age 12 and above would like to give this ago please come and join in...

"Today we had a little run down the river crake, shifting a big tree that would have been a problem for our race on the 18th Nov. So no excuses, let's see you at the race." Andy Longstaff
