Join us this Friday, 6 July, for a silent comedy night in Second Life. We’ll be watching Buster Keaton in his 1920 movie “Sherlock Jr.”, co-starring Catherine McGuire and Joe Keaton (Buster’s father!).

IMDB synopsis: “A film projectionist longs to be a detective, and puts his meagre skills to work when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend’s father’s pocketwatch.”

Hope you can join us! The usual time and place - 1 pm SLT in Odie: https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Odie/73/234/53

Coming to the Odie Cinema this week:

"Tepeyac" (also know as El milagro de Tepeyac / The Miracle from Tepeyac) is a 1917 film directed by José Manuel Ramos, Carlos E. Gonzáles and Fernando Sáyago. Starrring: Roberto Arroyo Carrillo, Pilar Cota, Beatriz de Córdova.

Unfortunately, the intertitles are only in Spanish, but I'll have the English translation available in local chat.

IMDB synopsis: "A man (Arroyo Carrillo) is sent to Europe on a diplomatic mission. The ship in which he travels is sunk by a German submarine. In Mexico, his girlfriend Lupita (Cota) receives a telegram with the news and looks for relief in La Virgen de Guadalupe, the saint patron of Catholic Mexicans. After reading a book about the Virgin legend, Lupita falls asleep. Next morning, she receives good news, her boyfriend is alive. Together they go to La Villa del Tepeyac (a church devoted to La Virgen de Guadalupe) and thank for the miracle."

Hope to have you with us at the old time and place: this coming Friday at 1 pm SLT in Odie - https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Odie/73/234/53

Join us on Friday, 13 April, at Refugium Cinema in SL for the first two Mickey Mouse cartoons - "Steamboat Willie" and "The Gallopin' Goucho"!

Both were produced by the Walt Disney Animation Studio in 1928. Steamboat Willie was a parody of Buster Keaton's "Steamboat Bill, Jr.", released earlier that year. And "The Gallopin' Goucho" parodied Douglas Fairbanks' "The Goucho" of 1927.

This April at the Refugium Cinema we’ll be continuing with animated silents - the theme started in March. However, we’ll look more closely into one of Walt Disney’s most famous creations - Mickey Mouse.

On our first Friday in April, though, we’ll watch several silents with a less known Disney character that preceded Mickey. It was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, which Disney stopped working on after a dispute with Universal, developing Mickey instead.

This week on programme:
* All Wet (1927)
* Trolley Troubles (1927)
* Tall Timber (1928)
* Rival Romeos (1928)

Hope you can join us for these early Disney cartoons! Same time and place as usual: Friday, 6 April, from 1 pm SLT.

Dear all,

Join us this Friday at 1 pm SLT for another silent movie night. Although one day late, we'll be marking Women's Day with Cinderella (Aschenputtel, 1922), a short animated film made by the pioneer of silhouette animation - Lotte Reiniger.

I hope you'll be able to join us!
