The 60 Hour Android Course for LICET IT students was tough and exhilarating at the same time.

Tough only because I had to travel from madurai to chennai every weekend for 2 months.

LICET was the first to respond my android course proposal sent to various colleges. And thus I got the opportunity to train some young & excited minds!

I had framed the syllabus covering just the basic concepts in android.
After a few classes, I realised that they were finishing up the exercises with ease.
I had to upgrade the syllabus and included some latest features in android studio.

Syllabus included - Basic Activities, Layouts, Emulators - AVD, ADB - Tesing on Android Phone, Basic Widgets, APK building, SQLite -cRUD operations, VCS - Github,
Intents, Networking - API calls, Social Login, Firebase Storage, Cloud messaging, Fabric Passwordless login - Digits, APK Decompiling, Google Play Developer License, Freelancing Industry details

The entire course was done in the lab without any theory session.

I was very impressed on the progress of the first year students. It was a great idea( thanks to +Dr.Doreen Robin mam) to include first year students in this course.
Their progress effectively busts the myth that one should know java before working with android studio.
Their progress cannot be attributed to my training, but to their own excitement and willingness to experiment.
It was fun to see them breaking into the codes of some popular playstore apps!
I am sure those first year guys have made an early start in android and hence will make a successful career in android development.

Final Projects in Course

The students had to do a final project from their own idea using the concepts.

Here are some of the projects
1. Food donation app - This app connects the restaurants to charity homes. The excess food from the restaurant can be donated to charity homes .
Automatic mails will be sent to both restaurant and the charity home on confirming the donation.
The UI was also very simple and intuitive. It was suggested to be published in playstore.
2. Gesture Lock for Apps - This app locks the other installed apps based on user gestures. It was great to see somebody working on a complex app.
3. Group Chat app - A small group chat app was developed wherein a group of people who had those apps installed can chat . some UI improvements was suggested.
4. Social Login - using g plus, twitter, facebook
5. College app - A group of 1st yrs have started the work on developing the app for the college. The app will take in the contents from the website.
6. Recipe app, Music Player App, Online Grocery Store, Children Home App, Fitness Tracker, Social Forum app using Firebase,Quiz app, Forex rate converter app etc
were some the apps developed during the final 2 days of the course.

The couse was completed with the inputs on google play developer license and its importance.

Overall, the course was just an initiation into the android world. I am confident that there would definitely be a lot of Android Experts emerging out of this group.

I would like to thank my Guru Mr.Shivasurya for agreeing to help out the students on the final 2 days of the course.

Big Thanks to +Dr.Doreen Robin mam for giving me the opportunity to train. And thanks to Bemisha & Shobana mam and lab coordinators who had to sacrifice their weekends for this course!

P.S. This post is just for claiming my bragging rights whenever a guy/girl in this group makes it big in the android world in the next few years! I would just point to the above pic and say -'hey..see, I trained him/her long back !'
