Just moved hives to one of our new and preferred style of stands. They were leaning so much on the old stands that we had garden stakes propping them up so then would not fall over. And the boxes slid so much they had many entrances in all the gaps.

Todd took them apart, Monica and Todd moved the hives and then Todd put them back together again. The bees were so ornery at all the bumping and prying that he got stung a number of times. But... Done! And yes, we are leaving a super of honey on each for the winter.

Beard competition!
I think they are winning. ;)

Bees "beard" in order to remove body heat from the hive. This is the entrance to one of our top bar hives.

Jimpson Weed -- Hallucinogen, which sounds exciting, but really... it's just dangerous and needs to be fought in the pasture.

Pesticide Kill, July, 2016

Folks. Follow pesticide application instruction to the letter. Otherwise collateral effects occur. Like you end up killing things. Oh, and it is a felony. There is that as well. It is a crime for a reason. Here is the reason. The pictures didn't come out clearly, but a hive of ours at our suburban apiary was likely clobbered.

This happens ... all the time. Be responsible folks! Please!

Long overdue quality time spent with my girls today. They chose the sugar water, I chose the white wine spritzer.
