I just learned that on New Years, it is a Navy tradition to write the ship's log entry as a poem. Here is an example from the USS Bon Homme Richard on Jan 1, 1964.

Fun fact - Captain Morrison is the father of Jim Morrison (of The Doors)

There was a steady stream of steam from the catapult on the flight deck during operations but in this case, I believe they were handling liquid oxygen. It is tricky stuff because in combination with oil it can explode. Oxygen is needed for the pilots. They use non sparking tools made out of bronze to work on fittings.

Living on the base at NAS Imperial Beach, CA in 1970. Two men to a room, it was almost like a college dorm. But after this it was off to sea on the Bonnie Dick.
