52 Week Photo challenge - Week 11 Landscape: Reflection" - Schliersee Reflection

This is a reflection on the Water of the Schliersee on sunrise. I was trying to capture the scenery in the lakes reflection. At the end I flipped the Image 180°

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 10 Portrait: Environmental" - Chipmunk

Again late I know. 8 Weeks to be precise. But I'm making up for that.
This is an Image from a Chipmunk which is visiting a tree infront of our home regularly. He is pretty fast. This time he gave me some time to frame and capture him while scratching his fur. You can see his hair flow above him.

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 9 Artistic: Shadows" - BMW World

I'm way beyond late here. As our kid is growing more and more my time has literally shrunk so much. I think I'm 6 weeks behind. But I still want to finish my Photo challenge so I have to make up for it as much as possible to get back on time again.

This is a panorama of the well known "BMW World". The subject for Week 9 is "Artistic Shadows". So I tried to get kind of a direction of Joel Tjintjelaar look. For this image I stitched the separate Images in Photoshop and started creating a lot of separate masks to define more contrast into different areas (windows, bridge left part, etc.). At the end I had some color bending that I had also to get rid of. I hope this image represents the "current" topic as much as I have tried to.
What do you think?

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 8 "Landscape: Panorama" - Stie Alm

Another one taken on top of the Brauneck at the Stie Alm. For this image I took about 27 images and put them in in Color Autopano. Afterwards I edited small details like contrast, sharpness etc. in Lightroom.

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 7 "Portrait - Faceless" - Heartbroken

I recently mentioned that I wasn’t able to deliver the last 2 weeks of my 52 week project on time. Now comes an image that should deliver the answer.

This is an image of our son at the 3rd day in hospital.
It is a long story but all in all I wanted to share this heartbreaking image that also represents my Week 7 "Faceless - Portrait".

This little bundle of love got through some much the last days.

- High fever
- suspicion on an Urinary Tract Infection
- 4 1/2 hours waiting in the emergency room till finally somebody took care of us
- put up an IV on his feet for antibiotics
- finally some sleep at 2:30 a.m. but had to share it with mommy in one bed with two other girls in the same room
- could not stay more than one day at the same room (hospital was completely full) --> more stress and less rest
- day 2 the vain of his IV was ruptured so another IV has to be set
- all the time he had no way to move on himself. Every Time we had to take him. He was so frustrated.
- ...many many more stuff happened

I captured this image on the last day of his stay in the hospital. What you see is this little heartbroken guy looking out of the window just wanting to go home.

Just wanting to move by himself.
Just wanted to sleep when he wanted to.
To play when and what he wanted to.

At this point we couldn't take it anymore. This place made him more sick than he was before. So we took him home and took care of him there. You can't believe how happy he was when he realized that we took him finally home. He made sounds we never heard before and was giggling till we got to the car.

And finally he recovered after some days.

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 5 "Landscape - Black & White" - Brauneck nahe Stie-alm

Again too late for this week but I was very busy with some family matters. This one has been taken on top of the Brauneck at the Stie Alm. Everybody who loves good cheese should visit this area. I can highly recommend the "Käsespätzle" :o)

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 4 "Portrait - Headshot " - Orangutan

I'm way too late to this and the next one. I had some family matter that held me up from being able to be able to post anything.

For the Week 4 challenge I used a portrait shot from my recent zoo visit with my family. Nothing really special, I just liked the pose of the orangutan mother and her attitude that she gave me.

52 Week Photo challenge - Week 3 "Artistic - Red" - Mars refraction in water droplets

I'm 1 day too late for this week. The reason was that I had a particular idea but haven't got a clue how to achieve it. The challenge was "Artistic - Red".

So my first vision was to show the Planet mars in the refraction of a moving water droplet. Starting yesterday I played with a pipette and trial and error to shot that damn thing while refracting the background. It is way harder than you thought. You really need some good equipment to get some results from this.

So what next? I gave up shooting a moving droplet and tried it with static one. First tried to spray some water on some cling film. The problem was that the cling film was working like a additional layer. So the refraction was not very clear. The next problem I had was that the droplets weren't very big and I didn't had a "special" macro lens to get that close.

So I tried to reverse my 16-55mm 2.8 with 2x additional extension tubes.
After about 2 hours of trail and error I found out that the sharpness of the refraction was razor thin. And the overall image was also too soft for my taste.

So what next? The cling film was causing too much softness, I had too small water droplets and my reverse lens was unsharp too. I was really frustrated but my wife was helping me with an idea. She had some "special" garn that she was working with.
So I span it to some small spider web and now I didn't have the additional layer with the cling film.

Next stop was the lens. I used my old 35-70mm Macro lens and put there some additional extension tubes. This was luckily enough to get as close as possible. So I shot several focus stacking variations and that was my favourite one. The only thing that is bugging me is that you see my Monitor frame which was displaying mars for the refraction. Next time I need to move everything a bit closer together.

So that's it. I've learned a lot in that hours. Could I have done it better? Probably. But for a first try it's ok for me. What do you think?
