There's an empty beach at Vila Praia de Ancora now

When the storms arrive, the beach empties. And isn't it a beautiful beach? (and a beautiful storm?)

Every other day of the year you can find people there. Walking, surfing or just looking at the Atlantic Ocean. But not now with the storms we're witnessing lately. Hopefully we'll have a nice calm weekend this weekend.

Just check this post from the Summer for reference http://en.trucosviajeros.com/greetings-from-praia-de-ancora-portugal/ amazing, isn't it?

What's the weather where you are now?

More from our visit to Praia Forte de Paço at Afife

These traditional sea houses make this beach an unique setting. But it's not only that. There is a small castle from the 18th Century, a fort to protect the people of the area (closed).

And on top of the hill (behind the houses) one of the biggest lighthouses in the north of Portugal (faro de Montedor).

Nice for a visit even in winter, as it is guarded from winds and people go there fishing in the evenings - nights.

There's beauty in storms at sea, but no need to risk it

Today we are under a storm (or a series of them) and the Atlantic Ocean is wild. But as much as I enjoy the waves and the rhythm of the ocean, there's no need to risk your life (or getting a cold). I'll wait until it calms down. How about you?

The picture is from last weekend at Vila Praia de Ancora. The weather was ok, but still the waves were too high to go for a walk by the water like the guy in the picture. Wonder how it looks today.

Exploring the beauty of beaches in winter

This weekend we went on to explore the beaches of the North of Portugal and we had a great fun walking by the wild Atlantic Ocean, with empty dunes and cloudy skies.

Yes, beaches are not just for the summer season. Just remember to bring an umbrella and avoid your swimsuit (the water is wild now).

And another from Praia da Amorosa
Wished I was there today. The amazing dunes compensate the wind. Don't you think?

We were looking for a Menhir but we found the Atlantic Ocean.
Ok, maybe we didn't follow the directions right. Or the signage was just completely wrong, but it was a great discovery anyway.

This beach is in between Viana do Castelo and Esposende. It's one of the first beaches at the Braga region when you go down from the north by the national road (not highway.)

Have you ever been to a beach with #rollingstones? The Praia at S. Bartolomeu do Mar is one of these stone beaches. It falls into the Atlantic and has some beautiful dunes.

It's also a "sacred" beach where people gather at Saint Bartholomeu's Day to free their children from fear and stammer.

Nothing can ruin a beach day!

This fog stayed all day last week but this beach in Esposende was full of people anyways.

Some people have asked me about the main picture of the collection. It's Praia de Moledo

Moledo is a wonderful beach near Caminha which people say has some medical properties (it's supposed to have iodine). It's a hot spot for surf learning and sunbathing.

And, in case you don't know, those little tents are for rent. It's something you will find almost everywhere in Portugal and it helps to have your own personal space and protect from the wind and sun.
Portugal is not the only place in the world where you will find them, but you won't see many in Galicia, Spain (that mountain on the right, just accros river Minho, is Spain.)
