Lobster

I will admit with no excessive strife:
I haven't learned the mystery of life.

Take, for example, the lobster. In the ocean,
she lives alone, suspended in slow motion.

Devoted to her unknown labors,
she's mostly silent, unpopular with neighbors.

But when consumed with my impatient ardor,
I peel away her red protective armor,

under its prickly, steamy, scarlet curl,
she's as defenseless as a baby girl.

And so, I ate her. I left her cold and hollow.
And ever since her eyes me always follow.
