Via Láctea junto ao Castelo / Milky Way by the Castle
Montoito, #Portugal

The Castle of Valongo is a well-preserved medieval castle located in the civil parish of Nossa Senhora de Machede, near Montoito.
Reference to the castle first appears in 1283, from letters of sale between the Infanta D. Leonor Afonso, daughter of King D. Afonso III, discovered by her descendants Pero Anes and D. João Peres Aboim.
There were indications that a tower had existed near the site of the castle. In the 14th century cartulary of the Sé Cathedral of Évora, the primitive tower or castle already existed before the construct of the structure known as the Castelo Velho, located on the opposite bank of Ribeira da Valongo. It was a Roman mansion along the road.
The castle is located in a rural area, on an incline over a small platform over a gentle slope 200 metres (660 ft) isolated near the Ribeira de Valongo, an affluent of the Riberira do Degebe.

Milky Way Rising - Belmonte, #Portugal

"You are not an observer, you are a participant.”
Thich Nhat Hanh

Photo description and details:
Another shot from last Summer's vacation, and taken from the terrace by the pool of the Pousada de Belmonte, a charming little hotel where I usually spend some quality time. Here we can see the Milky Way rising over the Cova da Beira Valley (which comprises the crossing path of the river Zêzere through the cities of Belmonte, Covilhã and Fundão). Normally this kind of photos are made with two exposures (one for the landscape and another for the sky and then blended digitally). I’m not that fancy and so this is only one exposure processed in Lightroom 5. I hope you all like it.

Milky Way by the Pool - Pousada de Belmonte, #Portugal
(Click on the photo to view it large)

"We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust.”
Rumi

Photo description and details:
I was lucky this time. By using the iPhone Star Walk App I knew the Milky Way would be aligned with the pool a bit past midnight. Just had to wait a little more for the pool lights to be switched off automatically around the same time. Two of the tripod feet were inside the pool, standing on the second step of the underwater stairs. The other was standing on the pool border. Everything on the camera was set. Shutter button with 2 sec. delay. Click. Voilá.
Before 1 a.m. I was back to bed. Preparing for another sunny day by this very same pool…
