The Zebra edition of The Sowers of the Thunder (collecting four of Robert E. Howard's historical stories) has some nice little illustrations.

My review of Matthew Hughes's 9 Tales of Raffalon.

Matthew Hughes's Raffalon stories are about a thief in the vein of Cugel the Clever, living in a Dying Earth setting full of arcane and obscure guilds. They're now available in print as 9 Tales of Raffalon. Hughes is a writer after the vein of Jack Vance, Roger Zelazny, and Poul Anderson. Very excited to get this.

How controversial would the following idea be in general OSR and D&D circles?

Appendix N was written with a specific agenda which included both adding to the respectability of D&D and downplaying the influence of Tolkien on the game. It reflects how Gary wanted the game to be seen, including an obscuring of the B-movie influences on D&D and a playing up of literary antecedents.

Matthew Hughes got the cover of Fantasy & Science Fiction this month with his character Baldemar. Worth checking this out, Hughes is the finest writer working in a Vancian mold.

Had to get both front and back covers. This collects a few historical stories that show up in the anthology Sword Woman but sometimes you have to roll with a great cover and an illustrated paperback.

Appendix N Madness: Final Round

Robert E. Howard vs Jack Vance

Winner is the champion. Loser isn't. If there is a clear winner at noon EST tomorrow, I will call this roughly at that time; if not, I may leave it open until as late as midnight EST.
