Memories of the past

The shot glasses in this image are linked to memories of my grandparents. They have no financial value at all, only emotional value. In the weekend they drank their gin and brandy from these glasses. They celebrated good times with them ...
Memories :-)

Prince by  Maayke Schuitema

Maayke posted this on Facebook yesterday. Maayke is a wonderful artist herself and a fan of Prince. The texts are about her memories, like visiting concerts etc.

Artist Maayke Schuitema (The Hague, 1974) lives in Wassenaar andworks in the Hague. A natural ability in both skills and knowledgeprovide the technical foundation for her art, a sign of a undeniabletalent of expression.

Schuitema developed her own technique that is a hybrid of paintingin combination with four expressive elements on large canvasses:the print of a linocut (mold), the painting and/or pencil drawing, thepainted word, and an elaborate background, the skin into which thetechniques merge. This techniques literally layers her work , but also figuratively in the way the content reveals itself. Maayke Schuitema’s work is loaded and pregnant in meaning.

This Animation Was Created Using Old Photos from the Early 1900s

Here’s an amazing short film titled “The Old New World” by photographer and animator Alexey Zakharov of Moscow, Russia. Zakharov found old photos of US cities from the early 1900s and brought them to life.

The photos show New York, Boston, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore between 1900 and 1940, and were obtained from the website Shorpy.
It’s a “photo-based animation project” that offers a “travel back in time with a little steampunk time machine,” Zakharov says. “The main part of this video was made with camera projection based on photos.”

The Misguided Monk

A different kind of art this time. A wonderful animation by Tom Long

An old monk finds his daily practice interrupted by an unexpected visitor. He is then led on a journey to discover the meaning of companionship and tolerance.

That journey to discover the meaning of companionship and tolerance might be a good one for us all to take

Sculptures by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen

Wikipedia: Oldenburg was born in Stockholm Sweden, but moved as a child to the United States. He studied at Yale University and the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 1976 he works together with the Dutch / American artist Coosje van Bruggen. They married in 1977. Together they made more than forty works for public spaces. His wife died on January 10, 2009 from the effects of breast cancer.

Claes: What does my work look like? I have many different artworks. All my works are in public places. First I make enlarged versions of everyday objects. Such as binoculars, a screw, etc. Second, I also work with soft sculptures. Objects that are normally made of hard material, I have to create magic items of soft and flexible materials.

Information and photos about these en many more sculpters:
