Earliest Crossing of the Northwest Passage Ever

"The Finnish icebreaker MSV Nordica just set a new record, sailing through the Northwest Passage above North America earlier than ever before. It took 24 days at sea to travel the 6,215 miles (10,000 kilometers) from Alaska to Greenland, arriving on July 29. Arctic sea ice has been melting sooner every year, opening the route earlier and for a longer time each summer. A team from the Associated Press accompanied a group of international researchers aboard the MSV Nordica, including photographer David Goldman, who returned with the photos below.

I have had several pairs for decades...
Different sizes. 🇫🇮

#Finland #Design
(CNN) - You probably recognize designer Olof Bäckström's classic orange-handled scissors.

The company that makes them, #Fiskars, claims to have sold over a billion worldwide, so there's a good chance you have a pair at home.

But you may not know this: In Bäckström's homeland of #Finland, the scissors are so iconic that their 50th birthday is being celebrated with a special exhibition at the Helsinki Design Museum.

Helsinki Airport in Finland becomes carbon neutral

Finland’s Helsinki Airport has become carbon neutral, having received a certificate from the international Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA).

The airport received the certification after carrying out extensive reviews of airport operator Finavia's emissions efficiency and offsetting residual emissions.

Finavia sustainable development director Mikko Viinikainen said: “The ACA certificate awarded to Helsinki Airport is an important milestone in the implementation of Finavia’s accelerated climate programme at our airports.

“Our climate programme comprises a number of different measures, but Helsinki Airport plays a key role in the reduction of emissions.”

The airport has managed to reduce its carbon emissions to zero through the adoption of several measures that have been continuing for many years.

Finland introduces Europe’s first hybrid power system for heavy duty trucks

The hybrid electric parallel power system, which is capable of delivering 850kW, or 1140hp, and over 5000Nm of torque, has been developed by Finnish heavy duty hybrid and electric power specialist Visedo, alongside Sisu Auto, also based in Finland.

The hybrid system could reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of heavy duty trucks by around 15 per cent, according to Kimmo Rauma, CEO of Visedo.
