Dawning pink over Dolly Sods
It's been a crazy couple of weeks this summer between vacations and business travel. Things won't be slowing down any time soon:( This is probably my favorite shot from the photography workshop I attended in Canaan Valley West Virginia at the beginning of June. I'd forged through the huckleberry bushes over to this location while the rest of the group worked another area of the Bear Rocks preserve. The wind was really blowing and the clouds were very low. One caught the pink glow of dawn as the sun was rising. I hope you've had a good week and here's to a great weekend! Happy Saturday!

Beachy Pastels
Processed this a little differently from my normal style:) The colors in this morning's sunrise weren't very brilliant so decided to try a more faded pastel look. I also applied a very subtle texture. Curious as to people's thoughts on this one. Have a great weekend!

Moonlight Serenade
This is Blackwater Falls shot under the light of a full moon. I love how modern camera sensors can pull out so much detail from moonlight. The moonlight gives a whole different feel to the scene:) Have a wonderful weekend!

Douglas Falls
I apologize for being so absent recently. I hate not being able to check in and see everyone's photos. Life has just been crazy and so I've been focusing on other things. Here is a waterfall known as Douglas Falls found in Tucker County, WV. I love this waterfall because of the unique coloration on the rocks (unfortunately the result of a chemical spill a while back). Hope everyone is doing well!

Departing Twilight
I shot this from the Navy Pier in Chicago using a 60 sec exposure. I like that the clouds are moving toward me (really out over the lake). I've been really busy (this is becoming a broken record) this week attending and speaking at a conf in Chicago. More photos to come... at some point:)

Moody Lindy Point
This beautiful lookout point is in Blackwater Falls State Park in the Potomac highlands of West Virginia. This is the first location we visited as part of a 4-day photography workshop I took last weekend. The sad bit of the story is that on the first day of the workshop my tripod fell 25-30 feet into a space between two rocks with no good way to get down to it. Thankfully one of the workshop leaders had a spare tripod that worked with an arca swiss mount so I was good for the rest of the workshop:)
My tripod was already "gone" when I took this shot so I balanced my camera on the railing of the viewing deck and used the self-timer to fire off 5 exposure bracketed shots.

A little swirl at Elekala #2
This is the second waterfall on Shays Run as it drops into the Blackwater river canyon. It is one of my favorite waterfalls in the Blackwater Falls State Park. I'm very interested in feedback on this particular comp. The waterfall and foreground foam and swirl form a kind of triangle that caught my eye.
I've got tons of images to process from my long weekend workshop in West Virginia but I'll try not upload a series of the same style images:)

Getting the perfect shot
This past weekend (really Thur through Sun) I was attending the 2017 Spring West Virginia Workshop co-lead by +Randall Sanger (https://www.facebook.com/randallsangerphotography/) and Martin Radigan (https://www.facebook.com/martinradiganphotography/). We had a fantastic time exploring the area shooting landscapes and waterfalls.
This is one of the workshop participants shooting the sunrise at Bear Rocks preserve on the eastern edge of the Dolly Sods wilderness in West Virginia. This is one of my favorite places to visit and shoot the sunrise.

Cloudy morning on the sods
I love the Dolly Sods wilderness and especially the Bear Rocks preserve at the eastern edge. This morning there were just clouds and mist creating a beautiful quiet broken by the signing birds. The mountain laurel is just about to burst into bloom. Have a great day!
