THE PRESS MUST BE GETTING TIRED OF INVENTING HORROR SCENARIOS ABOUT BALI

To read some of the crap being published, you would think that Bali is being inundated by tsunamis of lava, that thousands of people are being evacuated from the island to escape boiling mud rivers, and that earthquakes are tearing apart not just structures, but the very fabric of society.
Many stories focus on the terrible suffering being endured by tourists stuck in Bali, or the earth-shattering disappointment felt by those who have been unable to come to Bali to have a beer on Legian beach. Some 'interview' disgruntled tourists who see no ash outside their pub and conclude that airlines are cowardly wimps who won't let their aircrews fly in case they get scratched by an occasional errant ash cloud.

Very few 'journalists' seem to focus on the real human tragedy of local residents in the volcano exclusion zones, who have been forced to relocate to makeshift camps, and who have lost their livestock and their livelihood. Instead of promoting relief efforts, they talk about the inconvenience suffered by tourists as if it is somehow equivalent.

But sensationalistic stories sell papers, increase TARPS and therefore boost advertising revenue. Because this is the business model of most media, the hype will continue, I suppose.

The reality on the ground here is a bit different ..." This was cut and pasted from Vyt's post.... #balivolcano

Maunt Batur and lake Bature

After a long day of sightseeing tours in the northwest of the island, we found ourselvesfor a late lunch at Kintamani. We sat down to dine in a nice restaurant where there was a meal-rich buffet. There was a great variety of cooked dishes, salad and fresh fruit. I do not remember the name but it was pretty tasty or we were pretty hungry, but the spring rolls with peanut sauce were very delicious.
After enjoying the meal we went aout on the terace to enjoy the amazing view.

Kintamani area is known for producing much of the vegetables on the island of Bali but It is also known among tourists with breathtaking sunrise views of the Batur volcano and Lake Batur. The height of the volcano reaches about 1717m. It is currently not active and is one of the main landmarks of the island. As you can see in the pictures, however, the dark traces are the lava traces left since the last eruption of the volcano in 2000. The lake Barrier is also one of the main sources of drinking water on the island and a sweet water fish. There asre several villages by the coast of the lake and there are some really interesteng stories around some of them wich i will tell you about in other article.
Enjoy the view from Kintamani.

Stand up comedy Ubud, Bali!

One of my favorit things to be on the right place at the right time, without planing. One evening on the way home I saw a lot of people going into Panjara( thats how is it called a speciаl place where community here can get together). For me this means only one thing, there is something interesting happening, so just stoped the bike and when to look inside. There was a local stand up comedy, I could not belive it. Kids where enjoying so much as well as the adulds.
I coul not understand much, but it was fun.

Traditional Batik in Bali

Until recently, I thought batik was a technology using melted wax that was applied to the fabric, then soaked in a certain color. Then the wax is cleaned, it is applied again, it is re-immersed in another color, and the process is repeated again and again until the desired result is completed. It turned out, however, that there are different technologies, and they are actually extremely popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines.

Walking around the island, fortunately, I had the opportunity to touch and see how a traditional Indonesian true batik is made. What is the process itself. This is most simply the wax that melts into a container and is constantly heated to be in a liquid state. Then in a special device that looks like a penl, but not exactly because there is a special container that is filled with the wax and which at one end is like a pen from where the wax drains on the fabric. The motives that are used are generally connected with the traditions and the culture of the country. All proces is handmade and takes a lot of time and skills to make a real masterpiece.

In October 2009, UNESCO designated the Indonesian Batik as the Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Wowwow did not have an idea for that!
Namaste,
Anna

Bali today -Mount Agung volcano eruption

Hello friends,
Since August, the volcano in Mount Agung in Bali has been activate, and the last 2 weeks have been quite intense with hundreds of earthquakes. This has elevated the level of danger, of imminent eruption to level 4.

More than 100,000 people had to leave their homes and livestock behind. They were all accommodated in various evacuation camps. They currently have no indication of when they will have the opportunity to return to their homes. Some or even many may lose their homes altogether.

The current conditions are extremely basic - there are people sleeping on the ground, several hundred people are sharing one or two toilets with no bathrooms at all. Basic hygiene conditions are lacking and there are babies, children and elderly. No one can say for sure when this will end.

With my Balinese family (where I live), we have visited 3 camps, carrying food and essential necessities, which are extremely inadequate in the grand scale of the situation.

The government supports and takes care of all these people, but still not enough. There are constantly organized fundraising campaigns on the street in the cities. Every help is currently welcome and deeply appreciated by the people here. When we are in need and we do not realize the power of little help, but by thousands of people who are making tremendous support.

I would also like to add that if anyone is thinking of visiting Bali, you have nothing at all to worry about. The only affected areas are directly around Mount Agung. The Government has put measures in place to ensure tourism is not affected in any way - including flights in and out of Bali.
