Josey Records is one of my favorite KC Crossroads locations. On First Friday evenings, there's live music inside and a DJ on the patio in nice weather. And so many luscious records...

There are decks to try before you buy. It's a sublime shopping and browsing experience.

Refueling

From my favorite diner in the KC Crossroads. I can always count on good eats, coffee and pie. I know pie is eats, but it's dessert and therefore more different and special ;)

Winter

That time of year when even the graffiti is cold. It was 6-degrees F. Brrr. OOC with my battered Fuji X-T1

Hot and Cold

But mostly cold. It was 6-degrees F the first First Friday of 2017. I love the quiet of the streets and alleys in winter and the sound of styrofoam squeaky snow underfoot. However, taking a glove off to adjust exposure was 110% unfun.

Watching and waiting...

Fuji digital renders to a Fuji film era cool color balance by default. I could correct the white balance on this image, but kind of like its Vampire-friendly imperfections.

Truth

Coupled with the Hipsters inside singing Christmas carols, this scene had me near tears. I am madly, passionately in love with street photography and people having fun with fire make me incredibly happy.

It's not what you think...

The body language sends a mixed message, but this was just people spinning fire for no audience but themselves. That's December First Friday in Art Alley.

December in the KC Crossroads is a mellow affair and really enjoyable with reduced crowds and just enough vibe to get through the cold and dark that is Winter in Middle America. And let's face it, even ignoring politics 2016 was kind of a shit year with good people dying and too many shootings, wars and free speech standoffs.

This is one of those scenes that had me feeling all is right with the world. Imagine walking into a small gallery and a couple of guys are just jamming for fun and singing Christmas carols for no particular reason.

Quiet before the storm.

The hour before the crowds hit is surprisingly mellow at my favorite pre-First Friday restaurant. Late day light is luscious in the KC Crossroads.
