4 Shades of Chocolate Cake

Gorgeous chocolate cake that glorifies chocolate as the queen of all sweets.

I got this recipe from my former colleague’s aunt. She baked fabulous cakes for many traditional Croatian events, such as christenings, weddings, Christmas, Easter, anniversaries and birthdays. I was lucky enough to get some of her recipes to share with you 😀

Which makes you lucky also!

Cinnamon French Toast

One of the best advantages of living in Canada is having the best maple syrup in the world always handy :)
And the best way to enjoy it is with French Toast, especially with a touch of cinnamon.

8 slices of toast or any other white bread
4 eggs
1 cup milk
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extract
vegetable oil or unsalted butter for cooking
maple syrup for serving

Cut bread slices into sticks or leave them in one piece, as you prefer. Old, drier bread will soak better. Also, bread crust will give it a nice crunch, use the pieces with the crust on them.

In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk and vanilla. Dip each piece of bread in the egg mixture, turning to coat it on all sides so that it's well-saturated with the mixture.

Fry in a preheated frying pan on 2-3 tablespoons of oil. Watch out not to put too many pieces at ones. Fry until golden brown.

In a small bowl mix cinnamon and sugar.
Coat the frying bread in a cinnamon mixture.

Pour maple syrup just before serving and enjoy!

Yesterday we had a 4-year old boy for a visit. I got inside information that he loves chocolate so I tried these delicious muffins by +Sharon Lam!

He ate couple of them so fast and if it weren't for his Dad, all would be gone in a second :D
He still got to take them home :)

Chocolate Crinkles

More cookies, because it's Christmas :)
These are simple to make and fun to eat, great way to include your kids in spending quality family time baking :D

for about 40 cookies

225 g good quality dark chocolate (at least 78% cocoa)
60 g butter
100 g sugar
2 large eggs
225 g flour
1 vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional )
icing sugar

1 . Chocolate broke roughly into pieces and stir together with the butter in a bowl on steam, stirring constantly until the ingredients dissolve. Melted chocolate remove from the heat and cool off.
2 . Eggs mix with sugar on high speed until the mixture is light and thick, add the vanilla extract and not all at once stir the mixture of chilled melted chocolate.
3 . In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients, flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon to taste. Stir them into the egg and chocolate mixture, cover, and then store in the refrigerator for at least 3-4 hours or, if necessary, the mixture may be left in the cold during the night. Dough should be sufficiently chilled and firm so it can be nicely shaped.
4 . Preheat the oven to 170 C. Baking tray cover with baking paper. Remove the mixture from the fridge and with hands shape the balls the size of a little less than the size of a walnut, and roll them in powdered sugar so that the cookies are completely covered. Rolled cookies put on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes exactly (do not fry them) until on a surface you get crust and the inside of the cookie still stays soft. Baked cookies place on a grid until they are cold.

Enjoy :)
