The toxic brain effects of dental mercury silver amalgams have been known for decades (Sweden and Norway already banned amalgam and all mercury products, like all countries could). Mercury is the most toxic non-radioactive element, but there are ways to remove some or most of it from the body (see the end of the post).

Eating high mercury fish daily has similar effects. Imagine if someone has 10 fillings, they will get probably 100 times more mercury than from eating lowest mercury fish. In 1845 the American Association of Dental Surgeons banned the use of mercury for fillings, but nobody paid much attention to this later, as this group later dissolved. http://www.lead.org.au/fs/fst29.html explains that in 1909, 3 EU countries banned white lead based paint, followed by the League of Nations in 1922, and many other EU countries next 25 years. The current American Dental Association is run by pro-amalgam people, but half the US dentists or so don't even use the amalgam or agree with the American Dental Association official position. Norway and Sweden banned mercury from all products on January 1st 2008 and June 1st 2009 respectively. And those plants are not set up to remove it, so it ends up in your fish. In 2019, non-pregnant females and males above 15 can get amalgam only if mercury is encapsulated and they plan to completely ban amalgam by 2030 as the PDF explains. The new law is basically preparing everyone for the complete ban, like Sweden did in 1999 before the 2009 total ban. EU countries banned lead paints 69 years before US, will the banning of mercury products in US also occur in 2077, 69 years after 2008 (when the first EU country banned it)? The advertising industry knows that a lie repeated many times over can become an accepted fact by people without a lot of knowledge of the field the ad refers to (like many science papers about the ad topic, etc - the average person often times doesn't have the time to look up the papers or the motivation or knowledge to understand the chemistry deeper).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNxQc4mkg90 an amazing 5 minute video from the University of Calgary about the destruction of neurons by mercury (one more reason to stay away from fish, but more importantly, stay away from mercury silver amalgam fillings, which are far more toxic than fish). The video explains how in 1987 a team of research scientists demonstrated that mercury vapor inhalation by animals causes a molecular lesion in brain protein metabolism which was similar to a lesion seen in 80% of Alzheimer patients. The video shows Hg in concentration of 10 to minus 7 molar, which means 0.0000001 moles/liter, which is 0.0000001 moles/liter times 201 grams/mole or 0.00002 grams/liter, or 20 µg/liter. 1 liter is 1000 grams of water, so 20 µg/1000 grams is 20 ng/gram. What some people do not realize is that to reach pathological levels of mercury in the brain you only need to get to a level of 20 ng/gram (this is a very conservative number, in vitro neurons can be partially destroyed at even 0.02 ng/gram, which is 1000 times lower, but in vivo it may be different), which means for a brain of 1400 grams (typical), you only need 28 mg of the amalgam to get to the brain to reach 20 ng/g. If you have 10 fillings each leaking 20 micrograms a day, you leak 200 µg a day. If 10% of this goes to the brain, 20 µg a day goes to the brain, so you get to pathological levels of 28 mg of mercury in the brain in just 3.8 years.

If someone eats a lot of high mercury fish, they will get about the same level of mercury intake as having many big amalgam fillings. That is why FDA has a table with fish to avoid during pregnancy at https://www.fda.gov/food/foodborneillnesscontaminants/metals/ucm393070.htm. A much more useful FDA table though is the one with the real fish levels of mercury at https://www.fda.gov/food/foodborneillnesscontaminants/metals/ucm115644.htm. If you do the simple math, you will notice that it's much safer to eat the lowest possible mercury fish types. The table shows that the lowest mercury fish, scallop, has 0.003 ppm mercury on average, while the highest mercury fish, tilefish has 1.123 ppm, or 374 times more mercury. For example eating 100 grams of this 1 ppm fish, you get 100 µg of mercury, same as from several big amalgam fillings with 500 mg of mercury in each leaking into the mouth as explained above. Normally, people do not eat 100 grams of this tilefish daily, but some types of commonly eaten fish can reach 1 ppm easily even if the average is a little lower for those commonly eaten fish. Very few people eat 100 grams of fish daily, but those who do, may find this table life saving if their body has a poor metal detox mechanism. Many autistic kids were treated with chelation therapy to remove heavy metals from the brain, and the autism has diminished. People with other diseases have used chelation therapy and Alzheimer, Multiple Sclerosis, etc symptoms diminished, etc. Some people don't excrete heavy metals well.

It's very smart to remove your amalgam fillings using a dentist certified in SMART, Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique described at https://iaomt.org/safe-removal-amalgam-fillings/. Also, it is good karma to do all your dental work at "Mercury Free dental offices" that never use mercury, since those who use mercury pollute the environment, as there is no regulation about proper disposal of amalgam fillings. Norway and Sweden banned mercury from all products due to environmental risks. Not to mention, that if someone used a drill to remove fillings and some particles get into your mouth and you swallow them, because he is not using SMART method, you can get poisoned really well since you send into blood stream a high level of mercury that cannot be cleared by glutathione peroxidase and other enzymes (most mercury in urine is bound to glutathione). Even if the dentist doesn't make a mistake like that (very common, people sometimes swallow stuff thinking it's "just some material"), many dentists have 50 times the normal blood mercury level since their whole office area has mercury contamination and you may get some mercury from the air (especially if he removed someone's amalgam and some particles are in the air for you to breathe), since the mercury dust from all their removals and placings of amalgams is there and these dentists are not aware of the toxicity of these amalgams, no wonder many dentists have high suicide rate (especially true for those with high mercury).

The EPA website https://www.epa.gov/eg/dental-effluent-guidelines explains that American dentists discharge approximately 5.1 tons of mercury each year to publicly owned treatment works (POTWs); most of this mercury is subsequently released to the environment. Only in 2020, the EPA will force every dental office to use a filter to catch and recycle big particles of mercury, not all of course. Right now, the use of separators is optional. "Mercury-containing amalgam wastes may find their way into the environment when new fillings are placed or old mercury-containing fillings are drilled out and waste amalgam materials that are flushed into chair-side drains enter the wastewater stream. Mercury entering POTWs frequently partitions into the sludge, the solid material that remains after wastewater is treated. Mercury from waste amalgam therefore can make its way into the environment from the POTW through the incineration, landfilling, or land application of sludge or through surface water discharge"

I assume if a family member of some of these amalgam fans would get mercury poisoning, they would be more eager to look at the science data and support banning mercury in dental fillings. Dentists and FDA and other national officials who still allow or support amalgam may not be aware of all these studies, but in 2015 Obama administration Health officials have blocked the FDA proposal to limit the use of mercury amalgams http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/national/article28017817.html. The proposal, approved by top FDA officials in late 2011 and kept secret since, would have told dentists they should not use mercury fillings in cavities in pregnant women, nursing moms, children under 6 and people with mercury allergies, kidney diseases or neurological problems. WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE ABOUT MERCURY LEVELS TRIPLING IN OUR ATMOSPHERE RECENTLY??? This is not due only to coal fired plants, but also to amalgam entering water supplies, cremation of amalgam, etc, air, fish, crops, etc. Inhaled mercury vapor from fillings is fat-soluble, allowing its passage into the blood through the alveolar membranes of the lungs and then into the brain thru the blood-brain barrier. In the brain, Hg is transformed into the mercury ion, Hg2+ which can no longer diffuse easily and remains stuck in the brain, accumulating there and causing many brain diseases - even for people who don't have amalgams, but inhale coal fired pollution carried by wind from other countries. Saliva can turn elemental mercury (Hg) into Hg2+ and methylmercury and using retrograde axonal transport Hg2+ and methylmercury from food (fish etc) or amalgams can reach the central nervous system without even using the blood-brain barrier. One more reason to support wind power and solar power instead of coal.

Bush’s presidency that put off the issuance of regulations requiring dentists to install mercury “separators,” so they can properly dispose of their mercury debris, in favor of a voluntary approach."

Lots of people got rid of depression, tinnitus and other health issues by removing amalgam fillings and doing chelation therapy to remove heavy metals from the body (this can be done naturally too, but it takes a lot of effort to eat chorella (spirulina or anything green that has chlorophyll) and cilantro and citrus pith daily for many months for example - or other chelating foods like garlic, etc). Chelation means eating something that binds or chelates heavy metals. Since we are talking about teeth now, thousands of dentists believe that gutta percha https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gutta-percha#Dentistry is much safer than paraformaldehyde (or Sargenti paste or N2, RC2B, or RC2W as it is called at times) for root canal filling material as explained at https://www.dentalwatch.org/questionable/sargenti/overview.html. Some dentists still use the paraformaldehyde material. The FDA has banned interstate marketing of Sargenti-type pastes (and ADA and dental schools advise against it), but pharmacists can legally prepare them for local use (as long as they don't have heavy metals like mercury in them). I am not sure what happens in other countries, but it's good to ask a dentist what materials they use, since some US dentists may still use N2 from a local pharmacy, and scarier still, others (not necessarily in the US) may use formulations of N2 with mercury traces in them. Another article estimates 30000 dentists worldwide are still using N2. If a mistake is made and it gets past the root tip, lots of problems can occur, one lady had over 40 surgeries. Since some dentists lie about it and falsify records, as Edwin Zinman, DDS, explained on some websites, you can even ask to see the box that says "gutta percha" (this is a natural material from a plant). Obviously, the ideal way is to regrow tooth using your own adult stem cells, etc - but that is many years or decades away from becoming standard practice. N2 powder contains 65% zinc oxide and 6% formaldehyde, when mixed with equal part of liquid (eugenol and other oils) to form cement the formaldehyde becomes 3%. NATURAL METHODS OF MERCURY, CADMIUM, ALUMINUM, HEAVY METAL REMOVAL

Some of the most popular chelation methods that have been tested in actual science studies (most of them are done on animals though) include alpha lipoic acid (present in tomatoes, spinach, broccoli), garlic, vitamin C rich foods, vitamin B1/B6 rich foods, cilantro, onion, tomato, watermelon (due to lycopene), grapes and other flavonoid rich foods, chlorella, strawberries, the white pith of citrus fruits which contains pectin.

VITAMIN C RICH FOODS

1000 mg of vitamin C lowered blood levels of lead by 81% within 1 week, while 200 mg of vitamin C had no effect. Urine levels of lead showed little change, so the lead might have been eliminated in the feces. The best effects of vitamin C in many health studies were noticed from food vitamin C, not pill. Also, there are some studies that tried 1000 mg of vitamin C and got no results or it took much longer the the results were milder (due to higher levels of lead http://orthomolecular.org/library/jom/1978/pdf/1978-v07n02-p094.pdf), so this may not work so fast and well in every case, as the mechanism thru which vitamin C does it may be highly dependent on other factors such as overall glutathione levels, oxidative stress from other sources such as advanced glycation end products, etc. However, eating vitamin rich foods is always a great idea and other studies show vitamin C reduces damage done by oxidative stress from many sources, not just mercury, lead or cadmium. With all this being said, we still can say that we live in the stone age, as far as our understanding of the safest heavy metal removal methods (and how not everyone is going to benefit the most from the same method). Just like in the 1850s we had no plumbing or sanitation and we defecated near our kitchens, creating a pool of infections leading to huge infant mortality. Yet, arguably the most useful studies in humans indicate usually how eating food x leads to lower blood level of certain toxic metals due to higher excretion of heavy metals via urine. However, not all studies measure the amount of lead in the diet, urine AND feces, which poses a real problem, because in mice they noticed giving alpha lipoic acid lowered the level of mercury in kidneys but moved this mercury in other parts of the body, like the brain. So, one can be easily excited that "blood level went down", but do we know for sure, 100%, that it went out of body and blood instead of going from the blood to another organ involved in recycling old red blood cells? Also, lowering blood levels of a metal doesn't mean we even begun to remove 1% of the heavy metal in the brain. We need to have better brain scanners for heavy metals and to monitor in real time, daily, the lead level in each organ after taking "chelating food x" to know what is going on. Since such technology is non-existent, the only really useful studies are those measuring metals in both feces and urine, besides blood, as a result of an intervention compared to a placebo control group in a diet known to be VERY low in the toxic metals, so we can compute the net outflow of those toxic metals (lead, mercury, etc) from the body correctly. As you will see, such studies are VERY rare, perhaps less than 10 total, if any. Moreover, just because there is a net outflow of lead from the body as a result of eating "chelating food x", it doesn't mean that some of the lead, or mercury from one organ is not moved to the brain, in the process of detoxification. Without knowing what is going on, we cannot come up with the least destructive and the least "partially reabsorbing" methods of heavy metal removal. Several papers suggest using fruit or other types of insoluble fiber to remove heavy metals or to aid chelation via other methods to prevent any partial enterohepatic recirculation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterohepatic_circulation explains it in detail) of the heavy metals chelated via whatever method back into the body. Liver makes bile acids from cholesterol and the bile contains waste products that the body wants to get rid of also. Bile salts are solubilizing the fats and fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, K in the small intestine, enabling their digestion. The bile (which is further concentrated by the gallbladder up to 5 times by removing water, during fasting periods) is released in duodenum (the 12 inch first part of the small intestine). 500 mg of cholesterol are converted into bile acids daily (humans secrete 400-800 ml of bile daily), to help digest fats, vitamins. If we eat cilantro to detoxify, it pulls mercury from the brain and the bile eliminates it and if there is nothing in small intestine to trap the mercury (certain fibers and sulfur rich foods) beyond the usual very low amount of fiber, some of the mercury is reabsorbed into the bloodstream and body via enterohepatic recirculation (the process thru which for example a bile salt is reused 20 times by the body, since the venous blood in the ileum reabsorbs most bile salts). The small intestine is made of 3 sections, 1st is duodenum (1 foot long) which breaks down food via enzymes; 2nd is jejunum (2.5 meters) which absorbs most nutrients via enterocytes lining up its walls for transport via portal vein to the liver; 3rd is ileum (3.5 m) which finalizes enzymatic breakdown of carbs and proteins and absorbs B12, bile salts and other nutrients. Interestingly, autistic kids often have low vitamin B1, and often times higher metal load, indicating metals may drive B1 lower. Tomato and watermelon have a lot of lycopene, another antioxidant that is going to help the body fight oxidative stress, freeing some resources and more glutathione perhaps to bind mercury and take it out of the body. ZINC, CALCIUM, IRON

In vitro studies show that Lipoic Acid preferentially binds to Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+, but cannot chelate Fe3+, while Dihydro lipoic acid forms complexes with Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Hg2+ and Fe3+". Supplements of 50-600 mg a day taken without meals are absorbed more readily than those taken with meals. Apparently, some people got better results with dihydrolipoic, due to a higher affinity for mercury perhaps, but the in vivo literature for dihydrolipoic is not extensive. These Mike percentages are assumed by him to work in removing mercury you eat (fish and even fruits and veggies with traces of mercury) by adding mercury trapping foods like strawberries, etc. They do not mean that if you got mercury in some tissue, eating strawberry will remove 95% of it. Removing deeply deposited mercury is much more complicated and often times requires some strong chemical chelating agent, from a man made or natural source (like cilantro) - as some of the papers above explain. The ideal strategy is to avoid depositing mercury in tissues by avoiding amalgams especially, since getting it out is far harder and often times impossible from certain locations that the chelating agent cannot reach. Cilantro alone can cause heavy metals to come out via bile secretion into the intestine, but then it is re-absorbed if you did not eat MERCURY and heavy metals absorbing foods like pectin which trap the mercury in the intestine. Cilantro mobilizes heavy metals in bones and the central nervous system, including mercury stored in the intracellular space (attached to mitochondria, tubulin, liposomes etc) and in the nucleus of the cell (reversing DNA damage of mercury). Cilantro mobilizes more mercury from tissues than it can trap in the intestine, so to avoid re-absorbtion in less safe areas of the body, one needs to eat with cilantro a lot more mercury trapping things. Cilantro causes the gallbladder to dump bile with heavy metals into the small intestine. The bile-release occurs naturally as we are eating and is much enhanced by cilantro. If no pectin, strawberry insoluble fiber, or chlorella or other trappers of heavy metals are eaten with cilantro, the heavy metals are partially re-absorbed. One can also make a smoothie of cilantro alone and add alcohol and use this tincture to rub the joints to stimulate the removal of mercury. The wrists have dense autonomic nervous system endings (axonal uptake of cilantro) and are crossed by main lymphatic channels (lymphatic uptake). Garlic protects the white and red blood cells from oxidative damage from heavy metals entering the blood as a result of cilantro enhanced bile secretions of heavy metals, so adding garlic to the smoothie of cilantro and pectin fruits plus chlorella (cleanchlorella brand has no heavy metals, most chlorella sold from China is loaded with heavy metals) or strawberries helps. Brazil nuts have 1917 µg of Selenium in 100 grams, or about 20000-50000 more than apples, more than any other food on Earth. This might be handy during mercury detox too, since the multivitamin selenium (sodium selenate Na2SeO4) is not as bioactive and does not reach as deeply into tissues as the natural one from garlic and brazil nuts or other seeds. Selenomethionine (an organic easier form to absorb than multivitamin sodium selenate) only increased glutathione by 3%. Both selenomethionine and Brazil nuts increased blood selenium by 60%, this is helpful during detox, as heavy metals will be trapped by blood selenium, mercury especially. When glutathione enzyme function is weak, we suffer from all kinds of problems. I personally agree with the MDs who say garlic is the best source of selenium for mercury removal, because it doesn't have all the omega 6 fatty acids, saturated fat, lectins (you would need to soak nuts and seeds to remove lectins which can cause inflammation and then use detoxification enzymes and body resources to fight lectins in nuts, seeds, whole wheat bread, etc instead of mercury, etc, etc), etc that sunflower seeds and Brazil nuts have (even chia seeds have quite a bit of saturated fat, but to a lesser extent). White mushrooms have a whopping 9.3 µg of Selenium (garlic 14.2), 23 times more than strawberries. Garlic protein quality is higher than all fruits except kiwi and avocado. Garlic amino acid score is 84, higher than many veggies. Garlic has more protein in 100 grams than all raw (not dried) vegetables.

If you read many papers and websites on the mercury removal topic, you will see that chelating foods work best in combos, for example cilantro can pull stuff out of body, but cannot get it out well, so chlorella helps with that or humic acid or maybe strawberries or peanut butter. So, one can make a smoothie with pectin rich fruits or veggies (apples, oranges, bananas, citrus, carrots) and then add to the smoothie cilantro and strawberries (the insoluble fiber to trap the mercury cilantro pulls), etc. Or eat a little cilantro daily and your normal fruits and veggies. There are not many papers on some of these combos, but if you know someone who can do urine testing for free, you can see which combos draw the most mercury into your urine out. Since every person is different biochemically, what works best for one doesn't always work for all, so listening to intuition or spirit telepathy may help in eating the right foods to drive out all Aluminum and heavy metals that can easily be pulled naturally over a period of 30-150 days or so, depending on how much has accumulated.

It may come as a surprise to many, but even spices, dried fruits, nuts, ginger can have heavy metals in them such as cadmium, as explained at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2608637 "Mixed spices generally exhibited higher value for trace metals specially lead (6.6-9.2 micrograms/g), cadmium (0.65-1.34 micrograms/g), iron (142.3-285.0 micrograms/g) and zinc (64.2-65.8 micrograms/g). Dry fruits contained relatively lesser amounts of heavy metals than plant nuts. Almonds contained higher levels of lead (1.02 micrograms/g) and cadmium (0.24 micrograms/g) than other nuts and dry fruits." This shows how important is to detoxify with cilantro etc once a year or 6 months - since heavy metals accumulate in the brain, nervous system too and can cause Alzheimer, lower IQ, etc. 1000 grams of ginger can have about 1 mg of Cadmium (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4356677/), 1000 grams (about 2 pounds) of almonds can have 1 mg of lead. This is beyond UNBELIEVABLE. The lead exposure is not overcome yet, since many imported products (toys using lead paint) are full of lead if they come from China or other countries without strong lead regulations. "A study of toy jewelry found lead concentrations ≥ 50% in 40% of samples (Maas et al. 2005); when wiped, 70% of these samples released at least 1.0 μg lead, enough to cause high exposure with little handling." and lifelong potential disability (or iq lower by 20 points for life) if a kid swallows such an imported toy piece. A couple was hospitalized due to drinking coffee each morning from a mug that had a very high lead content. Symptoms disappeared after they trashed the mug that poisoned them with lead. Crystal glass has 24-32% lead, or 240000-320000 ppm lead, 320000 ppm is 3555 times above the 90 ppm maximum lead allowed in paint since 2009 in USA (first paint ban was 1978 at 600 ppm). The problem is a lot of imported cheap dollar store and even walmart mugs and glasses, can have 1% lead, that's 10000 ppm lead, or more. Coffee, tea, many fruit juices, etc are acidic and when hot, they can leach more lead from the glass or mug, far more than room temperature water or neutral pH liquids or juices. Imagine saving 5 dollars on a cooking pot or mug, but getting Alzheimer or autism instead, costing insurance company half a million dollars over 20 years of living with Alzheimer and costing yourself also 0.1 million dollars too. And FDA doesn't test every dinnerware, so it makes more sense to buy brands that have zero lead. It's strange enough that we allow lead in cookware. A child was lead poisoned because he ate from the same bowl that was 52000 ppm. The older the dish gets, the worse things get. Some brand new dishes have 100000 ppm lead, and it's just shocking that these things are legal to sell, since cracks and acidic foods would allow future leaching well above the leaching for a brand new dish. Generally speaking, the safest ones are the dishes without any decorative glazes added, like a typical cheap white or off white dish as the ladies explain in their video about testing dishes. The glaze colors often come from heavy metals.
