Not the Highway to Hell - But Hell on the Highway

Was trapped in the Bus during one of the worst rush-hour traffic jams the other afternoon as the Sun was setting, and then we passed this bridge across one of the main city highways and on impulse I snapped a picture of a traffic jam even worse than the one we were in, but with a beautiful golden background, however unfortunately the only image that came out sharp enough had the black silhouette of a traffic sign in it... But still I like it for the golden background and all the unfortunate souls caught in a worse jam than I!

Trekroner Sea Fortress

A sea fortress from 1713 to after World War I, protecting the northern harbor entrace to Copenhagen and played a vital role in the defense of Copenhagen during the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, and also played a role during the Copenhagen bombardment in 1807. During the German occupation 1940-45 it was used as barracks by the Germans and after the war it fell vacant until it was opened to the public in 1984.

The fortification was created by sinking three ships as a foundation and converted into an artificial island, one of the ships were called "Trekroner" (Three Crowns) and gave name to the island and fortification.

A photo from the archives (July 2008) never before published and reedited in November 2016.

The Wind Mill at Kastellet

Perhaps the most iconic building of Kastellet (the Copenhagen Citadel) is the old Wind mill. It is the last real mill in Copenhagen, and it was built in 1847 to replace to earlier post mills at the site. The mill is an octagonal shaped five storages gallery mill inspired by Dutch mills.
