South American Maras...

...at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster. These rodents are closely related to guinea pigs, and are common in Patagonia and other parts of South America. They mate for life, and have a strange, almost rabbit-like hop when they move, reaching speeds up to 18 mph.

A very fast-moving Armadillo!

This little fella could enter the Animal Olympics! A Six-banded Armadillo in the South America Viva enclosure at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, he proved very hard to photograph, running round the enclosure at high speed.

An alert Yellow Mongoose at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park

A native of the Kalahari Desert in Africa, the Yellow Mongoose is a snake killer. It will even take on a full-grown cobra. They happily share an enclosure with the Meerkats at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

A Magnificent Lion at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Part of of the Yorkshire Pride, rescued from cramped conditions at a Romanian zoo in 2010, these lions now enjoy a wonderful 9 acre reserve in Lion Country at the Park.
