Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

This is a 30 second long exposure of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas, Texas crosses the Trinity River. A walking bridge is on the left. The Dallas skyline is in the background. I really like all of the interesting lines and patterns the cables supporting the bridge make.

Bridge at Night

The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge crosses the Trinity River in Dallas, Texas. Part of the Dallas skyline is in the background. This is a 30 second long exposure. What I find interesting is that even though this is a long exposure, the flag in the lower left is still mostly in focus.

The Bridge of Many Names

Officially known as the Suspension Bridge, it is also known as the Castle Bridge, the Walt Disney Bridge, the Silver Bridge and the Cinderella Bridge. Whatever name it has, the architecture is really intriguing. The bridge is located in Millcreek Park, in Youngstown, Ohio.

I added a little mystery and whimsy to the scene by making the background darker, then post processing using the new +Topaz Labs Impression plugin.

Smolen-Gulf Covered Bridge

At 613 feet (187 meters) this is the longest covered bridge in the United States and the 4th longest in the world. You can find this bridge in northeastern Ohio. This shot was taken the weekend after peak Fall colors. The area was still quite colorful.

What is a good title for this photograph?

Should it be "Stairway to Heaven," or should it be "A Bridge too Far?" Both seem to work for me.

This is a photograph from Watkins Glen State Park in Watkins Glen, New York. If you like waterfalls, this is an excellent place to visit. Perfect for a really nice hike.

Windsor Road Covered Bridge

This is one of my favorite covered bridges in northeastern Ohio. Mostly I like it because you can easily walk down to the river and get low angle perspective shots of the bridge. I've been here several times, but this is the first time that the water was low enough to walk upstream so I could get this angle. I'm going to make another trip there soon to see if I can get farther upstream for some other shots.

My latest blog post.
I like bridges. They all serve essentially the same purpose, yet they are all so different. On a recent trip to Mill Creek Park in Youngstown, Ohio, my wife and I were heading to Lanternman’s Mill. Taking a new route, … Continue reading →

Old Stone Bridge

This is an old stone bridge in Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca, New York. We went there to see several waterfalls and I just couldn't pass up on this interesting bridge. Had I not been limping on a sprained ankle, I would have been tempted to climb down and get closer to the water for a different perspective.

Not a Walking Bridge

This is a bridge for transporting coal over the Ashtabula River from rail cars on the East side (right) to waiting ships on the other side. The ships then travel throughout the Great Lakes and to other parts unknown.

Made a roadtrip to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge in northeastern Ohio on Saturday morning in the hopes of catching the sun rise over the bridge. Woke up early, and managed the one hour drive to get there in plenty of time. Got all set up and just had to wait on the sun. The sky was looking great with just a few clouds that started to color nicely. I looked over my shoulder and the alpenglow on the trees on the hill behind me was awesome. As I watched the sunlight go down the hill everything was looking perfect. About 10 minutes before the sun should have peaked over the bridge, a bank of clouds crept in and that was it. It was mostly cloudy the rest of my time there.  I stayed for a couple of hours shooting the bridge from various angles and got quite a few nice shots. So, the trip wasn’t a total washout.

This is a 3-shot bracketed image (-2, 0 & +2). It was processed with Photomatix Pro.
