This USB car charger can cut your seat belt and smash a window in an emergency

The Ztylus Stinger is a USB car charger that doubles up as an emergency escape tool.

It can smash windows and cut seatbelts to make escaping a car in an emergency situation, hopefully, much easier.

The device has an internal spring which releases a small metal spike. This is capable of smashing the glass. It also has a concealed blade which can cut the seatbelts when taut.

It can be bought for around £17.50

ResetPlug Automatically Resets Your Router/Modem When Connection Is Out

When your internet goes out, the default first solution is to simply reset both the Wi-Fi router and the modem. That should fix any problems most of the time. Problem is, you’ll still have to get up from the couch, walk over to whichever room the router is in, and physically perform the action – not exactly befitting of our modern, convenience-obsessed times. That won’t be a problem with the ResetPlug.

A power adapter that plugs into your wall outlet, it constantly monitors your home’s internet connection and automatically resets the power to whatever’s plugged into it when a problem is detected. Of course, that works under the assumption that you’ve plugged in a power strip, which, in turn, supplies power to both the router and the modem, essentially performing an automatic reset to renew your connections.

The ResetPlug connects to your home network via WiFi, allowing it to instantly detect when there’s an outage or a problem with the wireless network. As soon as a problem is detected, it cycles power immediately to reset everything and checks again. If a problem remains, the adapter will cycle power every five minutes until a proper connection is restored. You can increase or decrease the time duration via an app, by the way, although we’d probably caution against going lower than five minutes, unless you want to end up frying your router, modem, or Wi-Fi access point during an extended outage.

Available now, the ResetPlug is priced at $59.99.

This Bagel will measure everything, and writes down your measurements

When you work in a field where you have to constantly measure things, you know how annoying some items can be to get an accurate number on. There are measuring tapes for all sorts of different jobs, some are loose and floppy, others are rigid to a point before they bend, and sometimes you have to lay down the same measuring stick over and over because you don’t have one that’s long enough for the task at hand. The solution we normally end up having is getting one of each version, but if you lose any one of them and end up needing them, you get to buy a new one.
If you’d rather chance losing all three at once, but also getting more functionality than you might ever need, then you should get a Bagel. What I speak of is not a delicious and dense product that will send your carb levels through the roof. Rather, I am talking about the Bagel, which is a smart measuring tape that will not only measure things, but organize and analyze measurements in an actually useful way.
This uses string, wheel, and remote (laser) modes, which can handle 10′, 33′, and 16′ 4” respectively. All you need to do is click a button to get your measurement, and then you can save a voice memo about what you were measuring which will be sent directly to an app on your phone. It can save up to 100 measurements, and will last about 8 hours on one charge. The display can be seen regardless of the lighting situation, and you can easily change the units. While this may cost you $69 or more, it seems like it would be worth it for those who have a serious need for precise measurements.

World’s Quietest Window Air Conditioner is whisper quiet

What used to be considered as a luxury can be said to a necessity in this day and age – and I am referring to the air conditioner. After all, there are those nights when it is simply way too hot, where even the ceiling fan turned on at full speed with all of the windows opened are simply not good enough. With so many different kinds of air conditioner models in the market, just which particular model should one get? Why not choose something that hums along silently – like the $299.95 World’s Quietest Window Air Conditioner?
As its name suggests, this happens to be an air conditioner model that has been reengineered with internal mechanisms that deliver powerful cool air at the same time producing a gentle hum equivalent to a rain shower. It is more than 1/3 quieter than its clanging competitors, as this hushed window unit incorporates a buffer around the compressor which will muffle sound and absorb vibration. Not only that, a unique horizontal fan is implemented that helps circulate air more efficiently, further reducing drag and noise. The powerful model will boast of three speeds and four modes, functioning as an energy-efficient fan and dehumidifier to boot.

Satechi Multi-Port USB Charging Station juices up half a dozen devices at once

In any household these days, there are many different kinds of devices under a single roof, even if it is just the two of you – or heck, a single living there. This means that at the end of the day, many of the power outlets would be fully plugged for the simple fact that these smartphones and tablets will need to be juiced up in order to be ready for yet another full day of action. Thankfully, many device manufacturers these days have decided to settle for a USB charging capability, and Satechi has come up with with yet another multi-device USB charger, which they have called it the Multi-Port USB Charging Station.
This is not the first time in which Satechi has rolled out a device that is capable of charging up multiple devices via USB simultaneously, and chances are pretty good it will not be the last, either. With the new Satechi Multi-Port USB Charging Station, it will come with a quartet of Type-A ports as well as a couple of Type-C ports, allowing Satechi’s latest device enables users to juice up multiple devices at the same time, and all of them in the same place, which means you do not need to fret about misplacing your devices when you are charging them. It does not matter where the Multi-Port USB Charging Station sees action – be it in a household filled with multiple devices, a crowded office, or a mobile workspace, the Multi-Port USB Charging Station will be able to offer users with a simple solution to ensure all devices are juiced with minimal effort and space.
It will boast of 60W of power and integrated smart auto-detect technology, allowing the Multi-Port USB Charging Station to quickly and efficiently charge smartphones, tablets and other Type-C or Type-A USB-powered devices. It will also sport a compact design of 4.5” x 2.75” x 1.13”, allowing you to free up even more space in your home while you charge them devices. An on/off switch allows one to control power without needing to unplug any devices. You can pick up the Multi-Port USB Charging Station in either black or white for $29.99 each.

The Bedphones Gen 3 are functional and comfortable

Some days it seems impossible to fall asleep. There’s too much going on in your brain and while you’re not necessarily hearing voices in your head (that’s reserved for the clinically insane), it’s just…loud. The only way to calm your mind enough to catch some z’s before the sun rises is to drown out the hustle and bustle of your brain with music, but the problem is that most headphones aren’t exactly comfortable to wear when you’re laying down.
If you don’t like using a speaker because your walls are paper thin and you’re a considerate neighbor, or you just prefer to hear every note as crisply as possible, you’re going to need a more comfortable option. These Gen 3 Bedphones might make sleeping with headphones on a less painful experience as they’re less than 1/4” thick, and use memory wire ear hooks to make sure they fit exactly as you want them to. Of course, even being as thin as they are may still be a bit too uncomfortable for some people.
These will plug into your music-playing device through a 3.5mm headphone jack, which means you’ll need to keep your device near your head. There’s also an app for iOS and Android that will automatically shut your music off when you fall asleep. One of the newer features is that it is now equipped with an in-line mic and a button to let you control music and handle calls for those of you who want to use these as more than a sleep aid. This $59.99 purchase comes with replacement foams, a carrying case, and a satin eye mask.

How Our Cities Are Getting Smarter

Our cities are getting smarter, fast. Improvements in hardware, software and infrastructure mean the tech revolution we've seen on a personal level - more data, more sensors, more personalisation - is beginning to spread out to our urban areas too.

From on-demand, autonomous bus services to smart streetlights that know where the best air quality is, there's lots happening. It's still early days for the smart city but these are just some of the innovations already happening in places across the world.

FlipFlic will control how much natural light is in your room

Do you have blinds, and keep forgetting to invest in blackout curtains so you don’t have to deal with any light in the morning? If this is you, then you have probably dealt with that delightful wakeup call of the sun rising through open blinds that you forgot to close the night before. If you know that you’re notorious for leaving the blinds open, it might be time to take action to fix it. Or you can get a robot to do it for you, either one.
If you would like to be able to control your blinds through your phone rather than reaching awkwardly to do it yourself, the FlipFlic would be a welcome relief. While I am framing it to be a one-trick pony, it’s actually much more than something that will open and close your blinds thanks to the corresponding app. This will turn regular blinds into a self-adjusting light, time, and temperature-responsive smart window.
To install this device, click it into place where the tilting wand used to be and you’re good to go. The battery is solar-powered, and comes with a window-mounted charging pad, so you’ll never need to recharge or change out batteries. These sadly don’t work with pull cords or strings, but they’re working on a new version for that very reason. You’ll be able to control how much light and heat comes through the window with ideal temperatures, control it manually, or you can set it up on a schedule when you’re away. You can either get 1 of these for $85, or 10 of them for $750 if you’re looking to make every window in your home smarter.

Seagate Inno8 is first USB-powered desktop hard drive in the world

When it comes to modern day storage options, there are many different kinds of ways in which one will be able to approach the situation. For instance, if you would like something really small and portable, your smartphone with a microSD memory card should be able to to do the trick, but for those of us who happen to hoard a whole lot of videos and photos, then surely a microSD memory card is insufficient, and neither will SSDs, but rather, a solid hard drive with plenty of storage should be able to do the trick. Seagate’s latest innovation to assist us in such a matter? The Seagate Innov8.

What makes the Seagate Inno8 so special? It happens to be the first USB-powered desktop hard drive in the world, where it will boast of innovation from the inside out with its industry-leading 8TB capacity, trend-setting Ignition Boost Technology and expressive design.
Thanks to the kind of advancements seen in USB 3.1 technology, major manufacturers such as Apple are starting to rely on one connection-type for everything, and the introduction of Seagate’s new Ignition Boost Technology, would make Innov8 the world’s first 8TB desktop hard drive which will not require it to be plugged into a power outlet. It works in a similar manner to that of a standard car which requires a battery kick to start the engine, as Ignition Boost together with USB 3.1 would allow the Innov8 to thrive off bus power without the need for a dedicated power source or adapter.

The Seagate Innov8 boasts of a premium, well-balanced aluminum enclosure and design which allows users to horizontally or vertically place it on the desktop accordingly. It will also come with Seagate Dashboard software, which will allow users to enjoy one-click on-demand or customizable, scheduled backups for their devices. Expect the Seagate Innov8 to arrive this April for $349 a pop.
