Take the LEAP, shop art & help a shelter animal!

I'm stoked to join +SmugMug and 11 other jaw-dropping photographers in supporting Shelter-Me Photography (http://www.sheltermephotos.org/) this holiday season!

Here's the dealio: for every print you buy from this gallery of mine: http://www.karenhuttonphotography.com/Sbs, SmugMug will donate a portion of your purchase to Shelter Me Photography. These folks give shelter pets a better chance at adoption, which I LOVE.

Each of these animal-lovin' photographers and me are offering a hand-picked print gallery of images at amazing prices just in time for the holidays.

Through DECEMBER 4th, you can buy a beautiful new print, piece of wall art, or even phone case. They're great for gifts and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

Don’t miss a chance to procure some beautiful art from me and the other featured photographers. See all of the galleries here: https://smugmug.com/promo/small-business-saturday.

So It A'Piered... Lake Tahoe, CA
I'm soooooo looking forward to finally behind home in my mountains again! I've been languishing through this nasty cold in the flatlands... but by this weekend, I'll have my feet back on high elevation home turf again!

Looking forward to winter's snow, moving a little slower, the holidays, getting back to flying with my BFF Bob the Dauntless Quadcopter... and moments like this:

Starstruck... Lake Tahoe, CA
I giggle now when I remember wondering if Fujifilm cameras were good for landscape photography. Now I can't imagine shooting with anything else!

This was an incredible sunset I saw coming a couple of days out. I followed the cloud pattern all day... then ended up on the opposite side of the lake than I thought I would. Hey, ya goes where the shot is!

I didn't yet have a case for my drone Bob at that point, so I didn't have that with me. Dangit! But I do now... so I can cover these magical moments in more ways than you can shake a stick at!

In fact, I'm discovering all kinds of ways that a bird in the air can help photography on the ground SO much! I'm outlining a blog post on that very thing as we speak!

Hope you enjoy... I sure did!

Taken with my Fujifilm X-T2 and 16-55mm f/2.8 lens

ISO 400
12 sec. exposure

Sigh Like Vapor: Truckee, CA
We haven't had many epic sunsets lately... but I've managed to be here for a few that were! This is a 4-shot handheld pano taken near home with my new all-time favorite camera - the Fujifilm X-T2. [contented sigh] I also used my trusty 16-55mm lens that evening. Oh and...

NEWSFLASH: I've got a blog post coming out tomorrow with first photos and video from my DJI Phantom 4. I've been quietly learning, building my skills and confidence... and marveling at the new frontier it presents! I'll announce it here of course... and you'll find it at www.karenhutton.com/blog

This winter... watch out, baby!! Fujifilm X-T2 and +DJI  Phantom 4. My sweet, sweet dance partners of choice for glorious snow season. I'm practicing now!

Epicness abounding...

Just a dreamy-dream moment from a walk the other night. After baleful blue skies all summer... it's been so nice to see the Deliciousness of Clouds again! Ahhhhh...

'TIS THE SEASON... for wildfires. Ugh!
Right now, there's a big one burning in the Big Sur area (smoke's been blowing into our area from all the way across the state!)... let's all think cool, damp and safe thoughts for everyone there, 'kay?

But a few weeks ago, one had started closer to us... the first tendrils of smoke made their way up the mountain just before sunset. By the time Mr. Sun had gone down... it was a veritable mosaic of color and light.

Breathing wasn't much fun within a few hours, but in those first moments of "here we go again"... there was some mad beauty to behold.

Taken handheld with my Fujifilm X-T2 and 16-55mm lens
ISO 640, f/9, 1/180 sec.

I'll admit it. I've been in a bit of a funkity-funk. Hanging out in Funky Town. Doing the funky chicken. Not my favorite place to be. So I did what I try to remember to do whenever this happens... start writing down things I'm grateful for. Well, it went from 10, to 50 - then turned 100 things... and ended up being today's blog post.

I'll tell ya one thing... I feel a helluva lot better now!
Which was the whole point.
Ahhhhhh.

And if you think this might help someone you know? Why share it! :)

And now for a word from our sponsor...

Just a little break in the snowy action with a simple sunset.
I found myself staring at this, kind of going all soft eyes for a little while... and felt my whole body start to relax.

So I thought I'd share this simple moment (which is SOOC, BTW. Thanks Fuji!), even though it's not fancy or anything 'cause well... it's THAT time of year! I mean, with all the hubbub of the holidaze... when was your last really good breath? Hmmmmm?

Excuse me, I'm going back to 'the zone' now... Aaahhhhhhhh...

Embraceable... Lake Tahoe, Nevada
Here, it's Thanksgiving.
And while it may not be that holiday where you are - I still give thanks for the many blessings in my life - which include YOU.

Thank you for being part of my life, my journey shared through images, for connection. Art always seems to break down barriers - no form of it more than photography.

I'm blessed to be able to share, receive, connect in the world. To have found the thing I truly love - to have it heard and seen.

I may not always share the tough stuff... the failure, disappointments, the faceplants... but those are temporary. The lessons they offer are forever.

Better choices, smarter attempts, understanding the power of better thoughts and feelings... those are worth dwelling upon and sharing.
Thank you for all you've taught me - and for this journey.

I hope today is full of blessings, wherever you are in the world.

House on the Hill... California Coast
There's this spot along the California coast that I just love. You can't really do anything there, just ogle the expanse of ocean spread out below you, maybe spot a few dolphins...and imagine what living in that house on the edge of the world must be like.

Now and again the heavens are ogle-worthy too. 😋
