Chinatown, Toronto

Walking through this part of Toronto, Canada was interesting, nothing like this exists in Dublin or anywhere else in Ireland.

No storm today, from the train in North Wales. A day after Storm Ophelia.

It is Canada Day today, the big country's *150*th birthday as well.

So here are some images in separate posts, of my travels in Canada. Of course I do need to get back, it's a massive country and I've only seen a small portion of its vastness.

I have been to the top of the ridiculously tall CN Tower, have you?

The 45m high Torre Guinigi in Lucca dates from the late 1300s and is reminder of an era of high rise building, with over 200 such structures, that dominated this scenic Tuscan city.

It's topped with oak trees for that garden-in-the-sky effect.

Cats of Sorrento

Stray cats are everywhere in Sorrento, here seen enjoying a little relaxing time in the evening sun waiting for the fishermen to land another catch of fish.

I almost joined them.

The beauty of France's southern city Nice at night.
Hotel Negresco in Nice on France's Côte d'Azur is an iconic landmark building and one of the most famous hotels in France. It is situated on the Promenade des Anglais.

Built in 1912 the hotel was designed by the architect Edouard-Jean Niermans who also designed the Moulin Rouge and Folies Bergères in Paris.

Here I photographed the impressive building at night.

I was thinking about my trip to Manchester recently and looking at images from the north of England.

It struck me how much the landscape looks like Ireland and how easy it would be to look at this image and assume that it was indeed an Irish scene.

And of course this scene has the elements of a good classic Irish image, the green fields, stone walls, old building and softness of the landscape as the sun passes over.

An enjoyable place to visit and photograph.

Town walls of Fougères leading to its well-preserved castle, one of the largest castles in Europe.

Walking these narrow, winding streets it is easy to put oneself in the position of an inhabitant of the walled town in the 1100s and 1200s and imagine the smells, sounds and sights that living in such a place would bring.

The town once had a prominent leather making then shoe making industry.
