Idle drain on Android devices has improved considerably ever since I switched to iOS over an year ago. I know this because two members of my family bought Android One devices recently.
It’s harder for Google to be on the same level as iOS in terms of idle drain and consistency because they need to balance data collection with battery drain.
But Android devices do have bigger batteries, so this is probably not a big issue in real world usage.
