Last month we were fortunate to be some of the first trekkers on the Jyrgalan trek, a new trail being developed in the Tian Shan Mountains of eastern Kyrgyzstan. The three-day 55km/33.5 mile journey takes you over several mountain passes (up to 3,515 meters/11,530 feet) with stops at alpine lakes all along the way. This was one of those "disconnect to reconnect" experiences.

If you want an offbeat trek where you're only sharing the mountains with local shepherds and you're also supporting a new community NGO, the Jyrgalan trek is for you. Our latest provides all the inspiration and information you might need to undertake this trek yourself next year!

Earlier this year we decided to embark on the Peaks of the Balkans trek, a  200+km/125mile journey through the mountains and across borders of Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro. It was a trek we’ll never forget and we thank +Zbulo! Discover Albania for advising us on this route and coordinating our trip.

Since then, we've been fielding questions like: "What do these countries and this trek actually look and feel like?”

Here's that answer, day by day: http://uncorneredmarket.com/peaks-of-the-balkans-trekking-highlights-day-by-day/

Acaime Peak, Cocora Valley. Dotted with towering palma de cera (wax palms), some of which grow to over 200 feet high. When we set off on our morning hike (up to 2700 meters) rain looked like it might ruin the day, but it was just the touch of atmosphere the cloud forest needed. This is #Colombia .
