A little plate of thanks.

Can you believe that only 2-3 months ago I felt "too busy" to cook, or even eat anything that I couldn't pre-order off Ritual and pick up on my walk to/from my studio??

January was a fun month to get back into real food. I totally started my Instagram account as a joke but good things start with humour so thanks for all the Instagram love and Google+ +1s. ❤

G+ friends: This will be my last photo cross-post. I'll try to post some food highlights from my Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/pearlmakesfood/) on occasion but I'd rather focus my brain energy on learning, cooking, and having some creative fun, rather than social media. Thanks again!

Chicken noodle soup - "whatever is in Pearl's fridge/cupboard" style (which kind of means ramen inspired)

The broth: 1 tbsp miso, 1 tbsp gochujang, 1 tbsp tamari, 1 tsp lime juice, and ~2 cups homemade chicken broth.

Chicken soup stock

I think I've been needing some chicken noodle soup for the past week.

Re-heating frozen pierogi

If you like crispy bits on your pierogi (who doesn't??) then the same 1-pan cooking method for making chinese potstickers applies.

From frozen, throw your dumplings directly into a hot, lightly oiled frying pan. Let it brown for 3 minutes. Turn over and brown the other side if you like.

Then, pour some water (ideally already hot) to fill just the bottom of the pan. This will steam cook the rest of the pierogi. By the time the water is gone (~5 min), they will be reheated all the way through and you still get the crispy bits.

Piri piri spice mix

Unlike Chinese 5-spice, I don't know if anyone really knows what goes into this spice mix. If you have a good breakdown, let me know. I'm just freestyling here, so help me out!

Baked egg

When I think of Korean food, I can't help but think they really, really like eggs in everything. So what better to top off a simple baked egg than delicious gochujang sauce?

Spicy ginger tofu steaks

These started off as a vegeterian version of the Korean Fried Chicken Wings but, since I was waiting for the last oven broil to finish, I went overboard on the plating so I'm going to call them tofu steaks -- sounds fancier than wings. :)
