The word “hospice” derives from the Latin word hospes, which means both “guest” and “host.”

Defining Hope is a story about people weighing what matters most at the most fragile junctures in life, and the nurses who guide them. It's a documentary that follows patients with life-threatening illness as they make choices about how they want to live, how much medical technology they can accept, what they hope for and how that hope evolves when life is threatened.

Hospice care is an often overlooked Medicare benefit: http://www.ahwatukee.com/news/article_2638dfd0-bcd3-11e6-8467-53966cd1d753.html

You can get hospice care if you have Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and you meet these conditions:

1. Your hospice doctor and your regular doctor (if you have one) certify that you’re terminally ill, with a life expectancy of 6 months or less;
2. You accept palliative care (for comfort) instead of care to cure your illness;
3. You sign a statement choosing hospice care instead of other Medicare-covered treatments for your terminal illness and related conditions.
