Improvements in LookUp Maintenance

We have made some improvents to the LookUp maintenance. First we have made it possible to copy a LookUp to a new LookUp. And we have made it possible to add more columns to the result list. Check out our new Productblog where you will find the details about these changes.

Introducing the Silver Essence HelpCenter

The Manifesto for Agile Software Development states that working software is valued over comprehensive documentation. While this is very true, it does not say that documentation is not valued at all. On the contrary, documentation is highly valued. Just not as high as working software. But yes, highly valued.

To document your Silver Essence Solution or Template, there are many great online solutions. Like Wiki's, Sharepoint, Google Docs or Sites, videos on Youtube or Vimeo and many more. Because there already is so much out there, we decided not to add another option. Instead, we have made it possible to link and qualify all your online documentation right into your Silver Essence Portal.

Check the following article on LinkedIn for more information and the instructions on how to activate the HelpCenter for your Solutions and Templates.

Tawk.to integration in Silver Essence

One the great things of a good portal is to interact with employees and customers. All have the same information and share the same insights on processes. But sometimes you need to have a quick interaction. The ability to answer questions in real-time, to offer the best of service to your customers.

To give you the features you need, we have added integration with tawk.to. With tawk.to you can add free chat integration to any website, using a highly customizable widget. And you can monitor visitor activity, using the advanced statistics or in real-time. You can assign multiple agents to answer incoming chats, keep track of chat logs and even create tickets to follow up on those chats.

We are rolling out this feature in the upcoming days. Check the following post on LinkedIn to learn how to enable the tawk.to integration.

Construct a Google Map URL

Imagine, you have a BusinessEntity for Organizations, Locations or something else that has address data. Most likely that address is not stored in one single value. Often the street, postal code and city are stored as separate values. So if you want to look for an address on Google Maps, that means you want to search on that combination.

To accommodate an easy-to-use link to Google Maps, we are rolling out the option to construct the Google Map URL. You can do this in the Silver Editor. Go to Modeling, BusinessEntities, Edit, Attributes & Composition. Here we already had the Google Calendar options and the Maps URL construction is added to that panel. Hence we renamed the panel to Google Calendar & Maps Parameters.

Once your BusinessEntity has a Google Maps URL, the label of each of the selected Properties will become clickable and will open up Google Maps with the URL containing the full address as constructed. To make it more visible for the user that there is a hyperlink to Google Maps, go to the BaseEntity that contains one of the Properties that is associated with the full address. Select that Property and expand the Label panel. Here you can set the Hyperlink Type to Google Maps. Now an icon will appear that contains the Hyperlink to Google Maps.

Improved Visibility of Hyperlinks

In the Silver Essence Portal email addresses, websites and other links are automatically transformed to clickable Hyperlinks. The user can click these Hyperlinks and the requested URL will be opened. Hyperlinks can be recognized when the user moves the mouse over it. But how can they be recognized when the user does not move the mouse over it? Or how can these Hyperlinks be recognized when you view it on a tablet when you don't even have a mouse?

To make it easier for the user to recognize that something holds a Hyperlink, we have added small icons, representing what kind of Hyperlink it is. So that could be a website, an email address, a link to Google Maps or Translate and so on.

As a configurator you don't have to change anything. If you expect a Hyperlink to appear, but it doesn't, check the BaseEntity Property Label for the correct type of Hyperlink.

We are rolling out MultiSelect Printing

We already supported the option to print data from the Silver Essence Portal. For this you can upload an HTML Template and the printing is done from the Share & Collaborate menu, once you have opened an item from the Main List.

Now imagine. You want to print all Item Cards for all the items from a certain assortment. Or all the Project Details for Projects from a specific Project Manager. Or all the Address Cards for Organizations within a specific Postal Code area? That would mean you would have to open each item separately and then do the printing.

Enter MultiSelect Printing. As of this week we will be rolling out the feature of MultiSelect Printing. You will notice this because for BusinessControllers that have one or more Prints, an additional Icon will appear automatically on the top right of the Search screen.

Once the user clicks this icon, the list will be transformed into a selectable list. The Search options work as usual but you cannot open an item from the list by clicking on it anymore. That's because you can now click the check box in the line to select that line. A Toggle-Switch is available to (de)select all the items in the list.

On the top right of the list there is a drop-down menu that shows the available Print Templates. Once you have made the selection by checking the lines you want to print, and you have selected a Template, you can then start the Action by clicking the Print button on the right. A new screen will open and the complete print will be shown there in a Print Preview Mode. From there you can print this using the standard options of your browser.

To accommodate easy reading, we have included a page-break after every item. if you want to use the page-break in your Template as well, simply include an HR element with className multiLinePrint. This will show the line in the Print Preview and will force a page-break when printing.

Additional Options in Security Filters & Exceptions

Imagine the following case. Within a Project Management Solution, Project Managers can see all Projects. But Account Managers are also allowed to see projects. But only those Projects that are linked to an Organization that they are the Account Manager of. If you would translate that to a SQL Query, you would need a sub-query or a join to retrieve the results. Until now, this was a case we did not support in the BusinessEntity Security.

As from this release we are rolling out an additional option in both the Filters and Exceptions. You already had the option to use the IN Operator, supplying a number of values to be checked. To this, we have added to option to specify a LookUp to be used.

What this does is the following. Instead of the fixed values, we use the LookUp to retrieve a list of values. For this, we pick the DataKey from LookUp. These values will then be applied in the filter, instead of the fixed values.

Of course we still support the use of fixed values. For example, if you want to filter on Projects in the Status Proposed, Active and Blocked. In that case, simply do not select a LookUp since the LookUp will have preference over the use of fixed values.

Be careful though. Not every data-source (for example older versions of OData) supports the IN construction. So if that's not available, we will revert to using an OR construction. If your LookUp returns a large number of values, the overall query might exceed the maximum length. If that's the case, you will need to get creative and find another solution.

View 2 Columns is now available

By popular demand we have added the option to show the Silver Essence Portal using 2 columns. Until now we had the default view of 1 single column (or 2 if the Business Entity included Images) and a slider for the field priority. A new view is added here, 2 Columns, All Properties.

The setting for this can be found with the BusinessEntity attributes. In the Silver Editor, go to Modeling, BusinessEntities, Edit, Attributes & Composition.

To test which view works best, you can also preview the setting by adding the parameter "Cols=2" to the URL. This will show the Silver Portal as if the setting would be enabled. If the 2 Column view fits better, you can then change the setting so it will be persistent.

The Return of the CSV

In the modern connected world we rely much on all kinds of real-time data connections. Whether it is through ODBC connections, web-services or API's, many of the systems we work with interact through one or more of these techniques. With all the modern advantages these options have to offer, one might almost forget that many companies still use CSV files to transfer data from one system to another.

Yes, that's almost. Because as of this Release we have added the option to import CSV files into your Silver Essence Portal. Check out this post on LinkedIn for more detailed information:
