Here are Jessica and Ryan, who Vesta, Devon and I spotted as soon as we parked on our bridge and I knew straightaway, that I wanted to photograph them, because Ryan had a camera in hand and was photographing the Virginia Street Bridge.

So, I asked them if we could photograph them and they said yes. Then I happened to see his latest photograph of the bridge on his LCD screen and it was in black and white and I got a little excited, cuz I’ve made maybe a couple thousand photographs of that bridge and I never thought about doing it in black and white.
And I can set my camera to do that, which I’m gonna do as soon as I finish typing and post this, which is right about now.

Here are Amanda and Emily, who Vesta and I met yesterday evening as we were strolling along Reno’s Riverwalk. They were smiling, looking happy and walking with a spring in their step and they were young and young people never say no, so we asked them if they’d like to be a part of our project.

Amanda is studying at UNR and Emily is starting there in the fall. UNR is a great school and it attracts a lotta people to Reno and lot of ‘em stay after they graduate, which I explained to Emily, cuz she’s from Auburn and even though Auburn’s only eighty miles away, it’s not the Biggest Little City in the World and I’m betting she’ll stay too, cuz Reno kinda gets into your blood.

Day 783 of 1001 Days of Faces, Two Hundred and Eighteen to Go.

Here are Julie, Bob, Sylvia, John Paul, Jacob, Pam and Vesta. We met them as we were on our evening walk along Reno’s Riverwalk. Julie was trying to take a selfie and seemed be having trouble getting everyone into the photo.

So Vesta offered to help and Julie handed Vesta her phone and Vesta made the photograph. And then, of course, I told them about our project and here they are.

Julie lives in Reno, but the rest of the family are here on vacation, some of them from Kentucky and some from Michigan and I have to say, they picked a good place to visit, cuz not only do they get to see Julie, but they get to enjoy the hospitality of the Biggest Little City in the World.

Oh, yeah, when I said I wanted to take their photo, they all insisted that Vesta be in the photograph with them and she’s never, not ever, turned down an opportunity to have her picture taken.

Here are Amanda and Liz, who Vesta and I met on our evening walk along the river. Amanda, who’s birthday is today, teaches ninth and tenth grade at McQueen High School and Liz is working on her master’s in Educational Psychology at UNLV.

Yes, Liz’s studying in Nevada’s other touristy city, but she’s from here and Amanda’s her best friend from high school, so she came up to Reno to help her bestie celebrate her twenty-fourth birthday.

Yeah, you read me right. Amanda’s twenty-four and teaching high school. That’s way cool, it really is. And it’s also way cool that Liz is getting her Master’s. Young people like Amanda and Liz just me feel like the future’s gonna be alright.

Also, I just wanna add, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMANDA.”

Here are, from left to right, Lorena, Oscar and Nataly. Vesta and I ran into them right after we got out of the car. We’d taken like maybe twenty or thirty steps on our evening walk along the river when we saw them. They looked so happy, too happy for us to pass up.

All three of these young people are students at TMCC. Lorena is studying to be a radiologist. Oscar’s a bio medical major. And Nataly is studying to be a medtech.

All three are pretty impressive goals. I think so anyway. Vesta does too.

Here are Cindi and Alex, who Vesta and I met yesterday evening on Reno’s Riverwalk. Cindi is Alex’s daughter and Alex is Cindi’s mother. Duh, I guess the last part of that last sentence is pretty self evident. Anyway, they’re a welcome addition to our project.

Cindi and Alex are Battle Born girls. That’s right, they’ve were born and raised in Reno. However, Cindi is leaving us with summer’s end, cuz she’s going to law school at Willamette University, which is in Salem, the one that’s the capitol of Oregon, not the one where they had those witch trials.

Salem’s a great place, both the one in Oregon and the one in Massachusetts, where they don’t hang witches anymore, and I’m betting Cindi’s gonna love it there.

But, I’m also betting, as nice as Willamette is, when she graduates, she’ll be glad to get back to the Biggest Little City in the World. Anyway, Cindi, Vesta and I wanna wish you good luck in law school.
