This crab represents many of us and the life journey one has to endure with obstacles

My boat trip to Kuala Sepetang
- A magnificent sight of nature, wondrous to behold.
The crab and it's home, the shape of a pristine bell
I view this whole scene a life journey -
The crab being us -
The piece of rope as the obstacle we face with daily
& the seashell the place of solace / a new beginning / hope and destination! When the crab hurdles the rope it reaches its destination - life is about challenges -I slowly will hurdle them and achieve my desired hopes and aspirations

Satay Image featuring my friend Chef Samad
preparing my daughters order
Location Taman simpang Setia( behind my home)
Photographer - TyaGem CreationsMysticalDestiny (TGCMD)
Am exploring Malaysian street food and I will start with my daughters all time favorite
SATAY !
- Satay or some would spell sate is Malaysia’s national and very popular street food. Walk down any street of any state in Malaysia you will never fail to find a stall .
Just ask the locals for their favorite stall and you will quickly be led to one.
The mouthwatering aroma of satay is loved by many .
- The Singaporeans, Thai and Indonesians have their own version of satay but they are quite from the Malaysian version. Our peanut satay sauce is thicker and richer than that in Thailand or Indonesia. The meat needs to be marinated in the spice mix, at least overnight, to achieve the depth of flavor and Satay Sauce is the thing that compliments the dish.

- Malaysia, satay is usually served with cucumber wedges, onion wedges and ketupat which is compressed rice cakes made of woven coconut leaves and boiled . All these are dipped into the satay sauce / peanut gravy or also known as kuah kacang' (nut sauce).
- The most typical meat for satay are chicken, beef and 'perut' (stomach) but latest innovation include mutton, pork, rabbit, ostrich, horse and several other types of meat. I don't consume those 'exotic' animals meats , as I am much more of a Fish /seafood, vegetable and fruit person and enjoy a healthy less meat diet. Yet when it comes to satay, I prefer either chicken or mutton.
There is food stall located near my home. A mere 5 minutes walk and I am at the stall . This wonderful , warm and friendly family provides a lovely experience of 'Malaysia truly Asia style'
- Samad and his lovely wife Wati along with his well mannered smiling friendly children will provide an unforgettable experience of home cooked style dining when you dine here. I have my other favorites too , Nasi Goreng Kampung, Mee Hailam and Mee Bandung

The price of satay at RM 0.40 cents a stick here , elsewhere around Malaysia is around RM 0.70 - 1.00 a stick .

My daughter Bianca, is a satay lover and this stall is her favorite.

Truly enough Samad's wife Wati is such an excellent cook
- This is one of the best satay, I have tired !
The satay is juicy and tender and extremely tasty, while most satay vendors would insert a piece of skin in between the marinated meat into the skewer but no this satay ! Hence why it is loved by my daughter she doesn't like the satays with skin in between.
Full meat is what you get for RM 0.40 sen / cent a stick and the sauce served truly compliments this local favorite.

- Satay is loved by almost everyone !

- P/S When I say "almost"
Am excluding out the vegetarians
- Those with allergies, you may wish to avoid the peanut sauce that is served with the satay. - - To make this a bit more interesting let me also provide you with the recipe

- Satay Peanut Sauce Recipe from google Search ' Kuali"
- Ingredients:- - 1 1/2 cup 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis)
- 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar (palm sugar preferred)

- dry roasted peanuts (unsalted)- - 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1 heaping tablespoon tamarind pulp (soaked in 1/4 cup water for 15 minutes, squeeze the tamarind pulp for juice and discard the pulp)
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- Spice Paste :- - 6-8 dried red chilies (seeded and soaked in warm water)
- 3 cloves garlic
- 3 shallots
- 2 lemon grass (white parts only)
- 3 candlenuts
- 1 inch ginger (galangal preferred)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp ground fennel
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- Method :- - Crush the peanuts coarsely with mortar and pestle or mini food processor and set aside.Chop the spice paste ingredients and blend until fine. Heat oil and fry the spice paste until aromatic and smell spicy. Add the peanuts, tamarind juice, coconut milk, sugar, sweet soy sauce and stir thoroughly. Simmer in low heat while continue stirring for about 3 minutes until the peanut sauce turns smooth. Serve at room temperature with the satay.

- Chicken Satay :-
Ingredients:
4 chicken breasts (boneless and skinless)
Spice Paste :
1 teaspoon coriander powder
2 stalks lemongrass, white parts only
6 shallots (peeled)
2 cloves garlic (peeled)
4 tablespoons cooking oil
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 teaspoons turmeric powder (kunyit)
4 teaspoons of kicap manis ( sweet soy sauce)
Bamboo skewers (soaked in water for 2 hours to avoid burning)

Method:
Cut the chicken meat into small cubes. Grind the Spice Paste in a food processor. Add in a little water if needed.
Marinate the chicken pieces with the spice paste for 10-12 hours. Thread the meat onto the bamboo skewers and grill on prepared charcoal fire, or BBQ pit .
Baste the satay with a stalk of lemongrass, that has been bashed to resemble a brush, and oil while grilling for 2-3 minutes on each side or till satay is cooked.

Serve hot with
- peanut sauce
- the fresh cucumber pieces
- onions
- Ketupat (optional)

Satay can be easily prepared at home too .Enjoy
