Unicode expanded with historic computer glyphs
214 characters from #Teletext and legacy computers such as #MSX, #Atari, #AmstradCPC and #TRS80, that were proposed by the “Terminals Working Group” in L2/19-025 were just accepted at #UTC158 for a future version of #Unicode, as announced in a Tweet by The Unicode Consortium on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/unicode/status/1085613123183071232

#RetroHardware wrote a nice article about this addition with some example uses, including a list of included systems, at https://retro-hardware.com/2019/01/17/unicode-and-retro-computer

Characters from the #SharpMZ aren't included yet, but will be handled in a later version.¹
Inverse-video variants of characters [unfortunately] were not accepted as a matter of principle². As "[e]xisting enclosed characters don't necessarily touch at the edges, whereas all inverse-video characters should[, the Terminals Working Group] are writing a #UTN that will recommend a higher-level protocol for inverse video."³
Nor are "IP-encumbered [characters] (Atari logo and Bob Dobbs)" included. ⁴
Various mappings exist for the #retrocomputer systems and are included in the Unicode archive. For a quick overview you can also peruse the online list at http://www.kreativekorp.com/charset/MAPPINGS/LEGACY/

Soviet computer prototype
I definitely like the look of this thing and its modular approach.

Pies for Neural Nets
Janelle Shane (https://wandering.shop/@janellecshane) is a research scientist in optics who works/plays with neural networks.
A while ago she'd already started with teaching her #neuralnet the concept of #pies (http://aiweirdness.com/post/167736100922/a-neural-network-invents-some-pies), but recently she wondered if she could take it a bit further by not only adding a list of old cookies and apple varieties from 1905, but also a bunch of #DungeonsAndDragons spells. The results were interesting: http://aiweirdness.com/post/180349337437/how-to-make-high-tech-pies-sound-really-old
