LONDON STREET LIFE

This collection reflects my love of capturing moments of humour and humanity, pathos and poetry while moving around one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

The pictures here are examples of what I hope are, most often, stories, frozen into a single image, encapsulating either something other, hopefully something more than the literal image itself, or a visually compelling composition or graphic interaction that says something about the way we live, or the place we live in - London.

'FORK-IN SUN'

First shot leaving the Photographers Gallery last weekend. A fabulously strong sun beaming straight at me, making the cobbles glisten as in a fair tale. A very obliging 'actor' meandered on to the crossroads, to complete the scene:

'IS YOUR BAG SAFE?'

Sun's out in Soho again, and so are the Chancers.

Can't help wondering what was going on here?

'SOHO'S SUNDAY SERMONS'

Just off Compton Street there's a pub where regulars sit outside in the street, especially on Sundays. I caught sight of these two gents engaged in 'conversation' but you can see that one was more assertive than the other in his 'Sunday Sermon'. It's in their faces and their feet. The chap on the right seems to be suffering under the onslaught - deep in thought?

My apologies to those who gave this image a +1 when I first put it up on G+ but Google seems to have lost the actual image so I'm having to repost it :-(

'REALISATION'

Checking out my chances of pulling off a half-reflection portrait image, I turned a corner on Charing Cross Road to surprise a somewhat startled lady taking a coffee break by the window. She was deep in thought; until I arrived. Beautiful eyes - kind of mesmerising.

'IMPRESSIONIST'

Stepping outside into the rain from the shelter of the coffee shop in The Photographers Gallery, I was struck by a reflection on the pavement and began composing in the hope that another would form as people hurried by with their head's down and brolly's up, and so it did.

'ANCIENT AND MODERN'

Sometimes a new technique will actually work for you unexpectedly quickly. Working my way up to Bloomsbury this morning, I tried 'hip-shots' to see if I could capture more close ups. Lucky for me; this time. They look as if they are connected across time - by holding hands.

'DAPPA PAPPA'

Still on my occasional theme of coming across 'characters' in London, I have to take my hat off to this gentleman. Beautifully turned out and so confidentally striding along; seemingly without a care, and what a Hat this Cat's wearing

'BORN HIT MAN'

Not far from Soho there are film and sound editing studios. Strolling down one of these streets I was taken by this wonderful image from the latest Bourne thriller; all I needed was ... a Hit Man.

'A TEXTUAL RELATIONSHIP'

The City on a sunny Sunday morning. No one around except for a couple taking a break on the only bench available. Phones are often a part of street images these days, but this scene just caught my eye. I had to laugh - quietly, of course.
