There was a mad rush to Death Valley a couple of years ago. On the way, the Trona Pinnacles became a brief rest stop for the five photographers who participated in this perilous journey. Thirty-six hours of camaraderie, fun, laughter and awe.

Searless Lake
The water may be gone, the the tufas remain. The Trona Pinnacles in the California desert formed as deposits when springs interacted with the lake water.
If you watch movies, you may recognize the pinnacles from Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Disney's Dinosaur, The Gate II, Lost in Space, and Planet of the Apes among others.

Left Behind
The Geico gekco spent the night in Ballarat (California ghost town) years ago. To commemorate the visit, a head board for his bed was fabricated and now hangs on the wall. Conversation that night was very limited, evidently Jake Wood couldn't make the trip Jake does the voice over for the gecko.

Is it the white line? Is it the tire tracks? Is it the road? Is it the mountains? Is it the people? It doesn't matter. Whatever it is, its there and needs to be recorded for posterity. +Sergey Sus and +Lorne Thomas take advantage of the lull in traffic.

The tufas which make up the Trona Pinnacles are quite interesting. This is an example of what is known as a tower; taller than it is wide. A daytime visit is alright, but, the nights are when these guys really put on a show. +Shari Seibold and I haven't been at night yet. Picture the Milky Way behind these guys.
