★ Spoon sweets: a little taste of Cyprus ★
In Cypriot tavernas portions are generous (to say the least), so you may not have room for a full dessert. To accompany your post-dinner coffee or Filfar (orange liqueur), why not order this syrupy treat? Our fav is walnuts.

More info about this and other Cypriot specialities: http://bit.ly/2gxHXR0.

You can even watch them being made at Katerina's Doros village factory. And a jar is a great souvenir to take home from your Cyprus holiday.

★ Cyprus heatwave: time for a frappe! ★
With temperatures in the 40s this weekend, it's hot, hot, hot. To cool down, why not grab a Cypriot iced coffee and jump in the pool?

★ It's capers season in Cyprus - but what are they, anyway? ★
Capers are the unripe green flower buds of the Mediterranean Caper Bush. Growing wild, the buds are picked and preserved in salt or olive oil, or pickled in vinegar. Often an accompaniment to fish dishes, their zesty lemon and olive flavour combination works well in sauces including tartar sauce.

★ Cypriot Greek yogurt - way better than the UK version! ★
The only problem is choosing one from the huge selection in the local supermarkets... our tip is to go for a 10% fat variety. (You'll notice in the photo we slipped up with a low-fat one by mistake). We recommend the Pittas brand from Papantoniou in Pissouri, or Lidl's own if you're shopping a little further afield.

Thick enough to stand a spoon up, the yogurt is creamy and yummy on its own, but delicious with soft fruit like nectarines, mangoes or apricots, and drizzled with a little honey. Protein-rich and filling too!

★ Hooray - it's apricot season! ★
These are the freshest apricots straight from the Foutas family farm along the road... And what better way to enjoy them than with some really thick creamy Greek yogurt and honey? Delish!

Cyprus Easter baked treats
A busy time with daily church visits to services morning, afternoon and evening, and community celebrations such as those in Pissouri Square this weekend.

And, being Cyprus, naturally food has a major part to play... Kitchens are warm and welcoming with the tempting smells of traditional Easter baking such as Flaounes (cheese bread), Tsoureki (brioche-style sweet bread), Koulourakia (buttery biscuits), and Tiropita (feta-filled filo parcels).
