Morning Commute

My morning commute to my bus stop usually takes me along this path. I finally stopped and decided to take a picture of this on the way there last week.

Death Ride 2017: Tour of the California Alps
Disclaimer Notice: I did not participate in this event. I just tagged along and took pretty pictures.

Website: https://deathride.com/

"Tour" is a huge understatement for this cycling event. With ~130 miles to (ideally) complete, and 15,000 feet of elevation to climb, Death Ride is an internationally renown (and more likely than not to be notorious) test of endurance, strength, and mental perseverance.

Official start times are from 5:00-6:30AM, but you more often than not see riders starting anywhere from 2:00-3:00AM to get a better chance of finishing before the event starts closing at 8:00PM. Most don't complete the full five-pass challenge, but those who do are rewarded with a jersey (and rest stop stickers) for their valiant efforts. This year was particularly hot (90F), and I was just the honorary chauffeur for this trip. Sitting outside was already uncomfortable, and probably 10x more intense for the riders.

But to make things more rewarding for this event, the Death Ride committee sure did have lots of fun things for the riders to eat and drink along the way! GU was one of the sponsors, so free gels were offered at every stop. They also had instant ramen, soda, flatbread turkey sandwiches, and of course they had beer! :P I'm sure there they had many other things, but I wasn't there to see the food/drinks outside the park event area. The Smoken Rabbits (a local band that plays all manner of classic rock) were a wonderful addition to hype up the event when riders would return to the park at the end of their ride.

Another benefit to Death Ride is being able to see all the beauty Eldorado National Forest has to offer! I think my pictures can speak for themselves. ;)

If you ever get the chance to participate in any kind of cycling event, I'd say to go for it! The views and food are always worth the trip.

Biking to Sausalito: The Golden Gate Bridge

Next stop: the iconic Golden Gate Bridge! There's a pretty steep hill you have to climb before getting to see this view, but it sure is worth it.

After going across the bridge, there's a steep downhill descent to the bottom. Definitely take it easy on the brakes, because braking too hard can lead to a very painful situation (i.e. being thrown off your bike).

Biking to Sausalito: The Wave Organ

I biked to Sausalito twice last week to prep for my first charity ride this coming Saturday. Needless to say, I'm tired! But I'm looking forward to riding 20 miles in wine country this weekend!

In the meantime, here was my first stop on the way there: the Wave Organ. It's a beautiful art installation that really shines when the tides are changing. Head over here in the early morning, or the evening to hear the ocean play its lovely melodies.

Flower Post Time!

I haven't really been out much lately, so I've mostly been taking flower pictures to and from my GBus stop at work. Here's the result of that; enjoy!
