“And then your loved one dies...and suddenly you've got no one to talk to, so you start talking to yourself."

This is Roy's story. This Christmas, help us #EndLoneliness

A huge thank you to the 50,000 people who have signed our No one should have no one petition in the lead up to Christmas. But there’s still further to go to keep the pressure up in the new year.

Help us reach 60,000. Please sign and share the petition: http://bit.ly/NoOneAgeUK

Doris, 83, describes her experience of loneliness. 'Because I can’t walk very far, all I wanted was to talk to people now and again but I didn’t have that and it was really getting me down. I needed more social contact, I was feeling lonely and isolated.'

We believe that no one should have no one and there is a significant role for Government to play in tackling loneliness in later life.

We need as many people as possible to support the campaign to send a strong message to Government.

#‎ManOnTheMoon‬ – the story continues…

We’re proud to launch our new appeal in partnership with +John Lewis, to help raise awareness of what life’s like for lonely older people.

1 million older people go more than a month without talking to anyone. That’s just one reason why the Age UK Advice Line needs to be able to answer every call it receives, every day of the year, including Christmas Day.

For those with nowhere else to turn, getting in touch with Age UK’s friendly and helpful advisers could open the door to many
opportunities for companionship, advice and support.

Sign and share our petition to demonstrate that loneliness in later life needs to be addressed. No one should have no one http://bit.ly/1SokTPd

More than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.

Contrary to what many people think, loneliness is not a normal part of ageing, and it not only makes life miserable, it can have a serious impact on your physical and mental health too.

We want local and national government to understand that older people’s loneliness really matters; and we want them commit to take action with us to prevent and tackle it.

And we recognise that loneliness can’t be tackled by Government action alone. We all have a role to play as individuals, families and communities in ensuring older people feel valued and included and that’s why we’re asking everyone to join us in taking action.

While many of us are looking forward to spending time with family and friends, new research from Age UK shows 60% of people aged 65 or over aren't expecting festive happiness to be part of their Christmas this year.

The findings come as Age UK launches its No one should have no one at Christmas campaign, raising awareness and tackling the heartbreaking fact that the festive season will be a very lonely time of year for many older people.
