The city of laneways
One of the benefits of Melbourne is the abundance of little laneways and alleys.
Down some, you will discover vibrant and edgy street art.
Others, you may discover a great little eatery or fashion shop.
At the end of this lane, you enter the magic of Chinatown.
It's worth the walk, I can assure you.

This post could so easily have been placed in my By the Water collection, but I've placed it here because it is a reminder of how many beautiful and often dramatic beach locations are within an hour's drive of the CBD.
This is Montford Beach, in Blairgowrie, caught the other night.

A change of colour to show off some of the great design in the Margaret Court Arena building. We weren't there to attend the tennis; this arena and other nearby ones are often used for other forms of entertainment. It's well worth a wander inside if you get the chance.

For the last 25 years that we're aware of, our local CFA have taken time out of their drills and protecting the community to chauffeur Santa down all the streets. Kids big and small get a big thrill out of it and attempt to catch the packets of Twisties thrown to them. It's usually the last Sunday before Christmas but I think it was postponed then due to the extreme weather conditions that day. Such a uniquely Aussie tradition :)

It's always a good day to go for a stroll beside the Yarra.

Domain Chandon Yarra Valley
It's tough attending a members only twilight picnic at  this location. As the sun settled in the sky, we relaxed while sipping a range of top of the line wines, fresh Tasmanian oysters and other delicacies.
The Yarra Valley is within easy reach of the CBD and is renowned for both the quality of the wines and scenery.

Yes, another one
Eastland, another angle. This one also showcases some of the pretty cool artwork by a number of artists that is sprinkled around the new section.
I love the design, new angles and interpretations at every turn.

Eastland ceiling detail shown earlier from a different angle. The integration of old and new has been very slick. Great design, a combination of wood and metal.

Another aspect of Eastland. Since it has opened, they must have realised some shading was needed. A pity, as the light play before the bits of covering went up was pretty cool..

Another cool detail from Eastland. This structure is Realm, the new library, cultural and technology centre. Outstanding architecture, they can keep all the ritzy shops though ;)
