Goddess Lakshmi is god of wealth and beauty. She is also the wife of Lord Vishnu and bhakts offer gifts and grants for her auspicious blessings. People also think that the happier Goddess will be, the more she will grant her blessings on them. Lakshmi Puja is performed especially by women and business men and is also believed that Goddess visits and grants lot of wealth on the night of Diwali. Check out celebrations in my house #Diwali2016

On Laxmi Pujan people bring flowers from market and make garlands for photos and idols for God. Nowadays there's readymade garland available in market for those who have busy schedule. I prefer to make garlands at home because all my family members sit together and make these garlands! And the talk we have during the process is priceless and that gives me real happiness of festival celebration. #Diwali2016

Dhanteras is celebrated with enthusiasm.Puja is performed in the evenings when tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. Bhajans, devotional songs in praise of Goddess Laxmi, are sung and "Naivedya" (prasad) of traditional sweets is offered to the Goddess. There is a peculiar custom in Maharashtra to lightly pound dry coriander seeds (Dhane in Marathi for Dhanatrayodashi) with Gul (jaggery) and offer as Naivedya.

In villages, cattle are adorned and worshiped by farmers as they form the main source of their income.

Diyas looks beautiful only when they are lit!

On 26th, the first day of Diwali; Govatsa Dwadashi we lit diya to destroy the darkness and bring light (happiness) in our life. Starting with this day number of diya are increased till Laxmi Pujan. Today I'm going to lit 5 diyas. The importance of this day is that people worship cow and calf. #Diwali2016
