In the end,

All your base are belong to us

After reviewing this white paper from 2009 about a botnet of epic scale and proportion, it baffles me that as a modern culture we build, use and accept Operating Systems like M$ Windows 10 while sheepishly ignoring the massive amounts data each installation gathers on it's user. If you bought into Google, it's been getting to know you since day one. Same with Apple and even the venerable Linux ;p (*yeah the "easy" consumer builds have data gathering built in too)...
We move away from hardening the mainstream boxes out in the wild, lose critical robustness scaling in national civilian infrastructure while also losing this time in which we could have been cultivating a culture that engages and embraces a higher level of understanding and personal responsibility regarding the evolution of our Net.
I found it a funny thought that with regular news reports of machine learning AI's seemingly on the verge of existence, all your data will be easily accessible by anyone with a young, eager AI and the power base of a huge botnet.
