Sahale Arm - North Cascades National Park

We backpacked in about 6 miles and gained just over 4,000ft in elevation to reach the top of Sahale Arm, where Sahale Glacier starts. In May of 2012, Backpacker Magazine rated this site as one of the best campsites in America. I'll agree with that ranking, but also point out that it's a heck of a lot of work to get here.

By the time we reached camp, we were climbing up Sahale Arm in clouds, strong winds, and freezing rain. A couple other groups were attempting to reach the camp as well, but all of them had turned around and found shelter lower on the arm. We reached the camp and found shelter in a rock ring for the night.

This was our view in the morning from the top of Sahale Arm.
