This is a very frightening article about the Mosul Dam in Iraq. The refusal of local officials to take the danger seriously reminds me a great deal of the attitude of climate-change deniers. Convincing yourself that not looking at the evidence will make the problem go away.

Quote: Naemi has heard all the predictions of the dam’s imminent demise. “Sure, we have problems,” he says. “But the Americans are exaggerating. This dam is not going to collapse. Everything is going to be fine .”

Nordland Publishing just released Mythos, the second volume in the Northlore series. The premise is that the old Norse Gods didn't vanish when Christianity arrived, but were just pushed to the side. They existed throughout the following centuries. These are the stories about them in that period.

My own story in here, Hungry is the Wolf, is set during Napoleon's disastrous retreat from Moscow in 1812.

Just a note to followers of this "Writing" collection that I co-edited a new annual anthology called Antares, due for release on November 26.

One of my stories (a darn good one, I think) called In What Furnace Was Thy Brain is featured in the anthology.
