Tribute to Michael Graves. Architecture in El Gouna, Egypt
I was sad to hear of the death of Michael Graves, renowned architect and designer.  On March 12, Mr. Graves died of natural causes in his home in Princeton, New Jersey. He was 80. Over the years, I could recognize…

Sand Dune Mountains of Western Desert Egypt
The Western Desert, (Libyan Desert), of Egypt is a desert dwellers joy with miles of dunes, canyons, oases, mountainous plateaus, and valleys.
These beautiful sand mountains pictured are on the edge of the great sand sea, near the Egypt and Libya border.

Sandstorm Blast Driving through the Western Desert Egypt
If you do enough driving around Egypt, is not unusual to get caught in a desert sandstorm. This sandstorm hit us as we drove from Dakhla Oasis to Farafra Oasis in western desert of Egypt.
This is for +Gene Bowker since I told him about driving in sandstorms. It is like snow…only nastier. This wasn't even the worst of it. We pulled to the side of the road because we couldn't see. Since our jeep isn't sand proof, I promptly plastic-bagged my camera.

I know that the   #transporttuesday  team is on vacation, but even so, this is a pic that I would submit. ;-)

Farming in the Oasis of Dakhla Egypt
Since I've been dipping into my Egyptian desert trips, I found this shot of the farm valley in the Dakhla Oasis in the western desert of Egypt.
Dakhla Oasis (الداخلة ] called the inner oasis, is one of the seven oases of Egypt's Western Desert (part of the Libyan Desert).

Dakhla is organized around the main town of Mut, a settlement that dates back to pharaonic times. Dakhla sits in a depression surrounded by pink cliffs and sand dunes. There are about 30,000 acres of cultivated land. The farmers constantly fight the battle of the dunes that threaten their fields and orchards. The fields and gardens are filled mostly with mulberry trees, date palms, figs and other citrus fruits.

Chicken and Mushroom in White Desert of Egypt
Yesterday, I posted a photo of me standing on a white rock platform. Today, I thought I show you a little more from the White Desert in Egypt.
The White Desert in western Egypt is stark, stunning and fascinating. Rock formations jut out from a stark white landscape. The formations are a combination of chalk and limestone shaped by wind erosion. Large balls of stone balance precariously on columns.

Pictured here is the most photographed formation in the White Desert of Egypt: Chicken and Mushroom. These formations are quite tall. The "chicken" is almost 2 metres high.
